Amanda was born in Rochord, Essex in England but was relocated at the age of three to Ontario, Canada. She is married to Alan Kovacs. Amanda's twin brother is a computer programmer and her older brother is a biochemist. She says that her parents have always wanted for her to go into the field of science but Amanda had other ideas. At first she wanted to be a doctor, then a marine biologist, but acting was always the tops. Amanda studied drama at the University of Windsor, Ontario. After 6 months she got an agent and starred in her first commercial, Tim Horton's Oat Bran Muffins. Between 1995 and 1997 she appeared in a number of t.v shows ( see amanda's_filmography ), but it wasn't until 1997 that she had her first major appearence when she won the role of Captain Samantha Carter in the t.v series Stargate SG-1. This role was incredably successful and has been on the show for 3 years now and has now been promoted to Major. Her day on the set lasts for arround 14hours a day. To gain extra insight into her role she had been speaking to an ex-Navy-SEAL who was teaching her specifically about astrophysics. Amanda loves to go camping, skiing, hiking, loves reading and riding horses. She also supports MS, Pollution Probe, and the RSPCA. Amanda is a very talented actress who sounds to have a wonderful personality. One of Amanda's heroines is feminest author, Gloria Steinem. |
