The Trade Union Relations

Firstly: Arabian Relations

· On May 28, 1968 the Arabian Federation for Textile,
Garment & Clothing was established, consisting of twelve Arabic Countries, and based in Cairo. They are: Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Tunis, Morocco, Algeria, Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen.
The Secretary General of the Federation is Mr. Sayyed Rashed who is also the President of the Egyptian Workers Federation and the President of the Textile and Garment trade Union in Egypt.
The President of the Executive Committee of this Federation is colleague Fathallah Omrani, who is also vice president of The Jordan Federation of Trade Unions of Workers and the president of TGC Trade Union of Workers.

· Our Trade Union keeps very good bi-relations with the entire counterpart trade unions in the Arab World. Our Trade Union complies with the interconnect and communicate with them through consultation and participation in the conferences and other activities, and through exchanging visits to discuss improving work conditions and amendment of domestic work laws to be more and more in accordance with the ILO standards.

Secondly: The International Relations

· ITGLWF- Bruxelles

This federation gathers about 217 million workers through the membership of 217 workers’ organizations come from 110 countries. In May 1995, our trade union became a member of this federation. And the year 2001, colleague Fathallah Omrani was elected to be a member in the Executive Board of the Federation, and that was in the election took place Sweden and for the years 2001-2004. Our trade union participates in all of the federations’ activities at the regional and international levels.

· TWARO- Tokyo

This organization brings together 53 organizations from 20 Asian countries, and represents about two million workers in Asia. Our trade union joined this organization in Melbourne- Australia on April 19th, 1996. In its 12th regional Conference took place in Okayama- Japan in Nov 2002, TWARO’s constitution was amended, so that one seat in the EC was added for middle east region.
Colleague Fathallah Omrani was the only one who nominated himself for the new seat, as Israel did not nominate any candidate, and therefore he was accordingly elected occupying that seat for the years 2002-2006. Our trade union participates in all of TWARO’s activities that take place in Asia and the Middle East.

· UIZENSEN- Tokyo

Our trade union keeps very good relations and a strong friendship with people of this union. As a result of this relation which is based on mutual understanding and shared hopes and ideas, a great humanitarian attitude and a generous donation was granted to the workers of Jordan by their friends the workers, people and government of Japan. In their visit to Jordan brother Takaji and sister Akiko Gono, and after they became aware of the hard conditions of the workers in their lives and works, they took the initiative to support and help the union to establish an advanced medical center that serves about (15000) fifteen thousand workers in the north of Jordan. On Jan 1, 2002 the medical center was opened. Its cost exceeded (92000) USD Ninety Two Thousand.
Recently in Japan, we met brother Takagi, and told him about the center’s need to a medical system that costs about USD 5000, and later on he remitted the amount as a donation from UIzensen. Again, we are very grateful to the sisters & brothers in Japan and can never forget their noble position.

· Relations with the American Workers’ Organizations

Our trade union keeps very distinguished ties with the American trade union of workers in Textile and Garment- NYK, The American Federation of Workers- Washington- DC and The American Solidarity Center- Washington- DC. The later Center grants our trade union a yearly budget to conduct 4 workshops. The main aims of these workshops are educating the workers and training union leaders that understand the industrial relations as well as the national and international laws and regulations. The solidarity center also grants a yearly amount of money to issue the quarterly news bulletin of our trade union.
We hope this support will continue to achieve the common targets such as the spread of democracy, and activation of human rights and achievement of the peace in our region.

· Relations with the World Movement of Democracy

Our trade union participates in the activities of this world movement, including its world conference, which is conducted every two years. These conferences discuss the problems of democracy and human rights all over the world. Its first conference took place in Turkey, the second was in the year 2001 in Brazil, and the Third was arranged for it to be in South Africa but it was postponed because of the war circumstances that the area lived.
