| To get a Chocobo you must first find the Chocobo's Forest which is in the Mist Continent, by the lower exit of Lindblum. Once you enter the forest Choco will run away. Talk to Mene and he will give you an item called Gysahl Greens. Go outside and use the Gysahl Greens when you are on the Chocobo tracks and Choco is now yours. You can call him when you are on the tracks anytime and you can purchase Gysahl Greens from Mene. |
| You can play Chocobo Hot and Cold once you pay Mene 60 Gil. You ride around on Choco searching for items. You do this by pressing Square to make Choco dig. He will let out different sounds depending on how close he is to the hidden item. Heres what they mean: Kweh - No treasure nearby Kweh!? - Your getting closer to the treasure Kwehhh!? - Your very close to the treasure K-KWEHHH - You've struck the spot where the treasure is Once you've hit the spot where the treasure is hidden you have to tap Square continually to dig down to the treasure. Different items have different depths and the better items take longer to dig out. For each item you dig up you recieve points. The better items you find the more points you recieve. If you find 4 items in one game Mene will add 10 seconds to the clock and double the amount of points you recieve thereafter. If you find 8 items in one game Mene will tell you to stop and gives you an added bonus. If you find 2 items within 5 seconds of each other you will get an additional bonus. As you recieve more points Choco's beak level will improve making items much easier to find and alot faster in digging them out. |
| You can find an item called a Chocograph while playing Chocobo Hot and Cold. They tell the locations of hidden treasure on the world map. To use the Chocograph you must be riding Choco. Pressing Triangle while you are on Choco will display the Chocograph menu. Select the Chocograph you want to find and exit the menu. The picture of the treasures location should appear above the mini-map. Go to that location and start searching using Square to dig and listen to the sound Choco makes similar to Chocobo Hot and Cold. For the locations of all the Chocographs click here |
| CHOCOBO ABILITIES |
| Some Chocographs show the location where Choco can dig up a Power Up. Once he finds one of these he falls asleep and enters the "Dream World." Here the Fat Chocobo will give Choco a new ability which also changes his colour. Choco will keep all his previous abilities even if he gains a new ability. When Choco turns Light Blue he has the Reef ability and can walk through shallow water. When Choco turns Red he has the Mt. ability and can walk over mountians and ridges. When Choco turns Dark Blue he has the Ocean ability and can walk over all water. When Choco turns Gold he has the Sky ability and can fly but only if you lift off from a forest. |
| Once no more Chocographs can be found in the Chocobo's Forest (For now) Mene will tell you. Once you have a vehicle you must go to a small strip of islands south of the Forgotten Continent. Land on the island with the Chocobo tracks and call Choco. He must have the Reef ability so he can travel over shallow water. Go north across the reefs and curve south when you can until you reach an island with a cave visible in the side. Enter with Choco and you have found Chocobo's Lagoon. Mene appears letting you search the shallow area for 30 seconds at 30 Gil a game. Once you have the Ocean ability you can search the entire area for 60 seconds at 60 Gil a game. To get the Ocean ability you must find the Mt. ability then return to the Chocobo's Forest. |
| After finding all the Chocographs in the Chocobo's Lagoon Mene tells you that it is now time to find the Chocobo's Air Garden. You can find all the locations of it on the back of all 6 Chocograph Pieces which you find playing Chocobo Hot and Cold. The Chocograph it makes shows the location of the Sky ability which you need. There are 5 different locations of it and you can find which one it is by watching for a black shadow on the ground. Hover Choco over the shadow and feed it a Dead Pepper. Mene will arrive and you can play Chocobo Hot and Cold here to find the last Chocographs. |
| After you have found all the hidden treasures it is time to find the Chocobo's Paradise. Fly Choco to the northwestern corner of the world map and you will find a hidden island. Land in the forest and find the large crack in the mountain and use a Dead Pepper. Choco will drill into the mountian creating an entrance to Chocobo's Paradise. Go to the fountain and use it to launch yourself up to the Fat Chocobo. He will tell you that there are still treasures to be found outside and talk to the other Chocobos to learn where they are. You will have to use a Dead Pepper to find the treasure and return to Chocobo's Paradise once you have found them all. Talk to the Fat Chocobo and he will give you his rare Fat Chocobo card. |
