| To get a Chocobo you must first find one of seven Chocobo Forests located around the worldmap. You must solve a puzzle inside the Forest and find a hidden item to win the Chocobo's trust. |
| When you first enter any Chocobo Forest you will meet a little boy who calls himself a Chocoboy. He will tell you all about the Chocobos and offer to sell you a ChocoWhis and an explanation on how to use it for 1000 Gil. You need this ChocoWhis for the Chocobos to come to you so you might as well pay up. The ChocoWhis is used for calling baby Chocobos (Chicobos) to the ground. The ChocoWhis has two modes, the ChocoSonar and the ChocoZiner. The ChocoSonar is used for locating Chicobos. It will produce a soft ping when you search the area and will change to a high-fast pitched noise once you have found the Chicobo. When you hear that use the ChocoZiner and the Chicobo will fall to the ground. However if you are not standing underneath a Chicobo it will steal your ChocoWhis and you will have to pay 700 Gil for another one. |
| The goal in every forest is to call out Chicobos in a particular pattern so that only one Chicobo is left on the ground. This makes the parent nervous and causes it to come out of hiding to find the lone Chicobo. After solving the puzzle you can look for the hidden item. Once you find it the Chocobos will trust you and no longer hide from you in that Forest. If you don't find the item you will have to solve the puzzle again if you re-enter the Forest. |
| While attempting on solving the puzzle you can always ask the Chocoboy for help. Nothings free so you will have to pay him. |

| You can't catch a Chocobo without it. The first one will cost you 1000 Gil. If you lose it you will have to buy a replacement for 700 Gil. The Chocoboy tells you the name of the Forest you are currently in and tells you a clue on how to solve the puzzle. These can be used in battle to summon a GF-like Chocobo. The Chocobo will hit the target with a Flare attack. The Chocoboy will answer any question about the ChocoWhis and himself. It may prove useful if your having trouble using the ChocoWhis. The Chocoboy is willing to catch a Chocobo for you. This will not solve the puzzle but just let you ride a Chocobo. You can't find the hidden item either. |
