WTC Search and Clean-up
Rescuers continue to work around the clock
in the wreckage of the World Trade Center
trying to find buried survivors. City officials
said so far nearly 40,000 tons of debris have
been removed but 20 times that much
probably remains. Mayor Rudolph Giuliani
said Tuesday 218 people are confirmed dead;
152 of those have been identified and 74 were
emergency workers. "The chances of
recovering any live human beings are very,
very small now, given the amount of time
and the condition of the site," Giuliani said.
