Fantasy Guys' Mock Draft 2006

We took ten of the best fantasy football minds we know and held ourselves a mock draft.  The basics:  Each team must start 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 Team Defense.  The draft is a fifteen rounder, allowing for backups to each position if so desired.  What follows is a round by round, pick by pick coverage of our draft.  Use this info to gauge how your draft might go, or should go.

This draft was held on August 17th, 2006

Round 1

1

Johnny Oaktree

L. Johnson - KC

The best RB in the game today, with or without OT Roaf.

2

James Knight

S. Alexander - SEA

Obviously LJ was the top pick, so I took  the TD machine in Seattle.

3

Brian Sullivan

L. Tomlinson - SD

With LJ and Alexander gone this was a no-brainer.  Any one of the three could put up the best numbers this year.

4

Mike Fairhill

E. James – ARI

I was eyeing Portis at this spot up until his injury.  With him out, I decided to select James, decided to be cautious.

5

Ryan Huntgate

R. Brown – MIA

Ricky Williams is gone, Miami has a legitimate passing threat, and coach Nick Saban has this team going in the right direction.  Brown will be a productive workhorse with no competition for his starting job.

6

Chris Slater

T. Barber – NY

I was thrilled to have Tiki fall to the 6th spot.  I consider him the best of the lot after the top 3 are off the board.  The high powered Giants offense will give him plenty of touches.

7

Holden Ridge

P. Manning – IND

The top running backs are gone and it's too early for a wide receiver; so take the best available player. That's Manning.

8

Joe Blake

S. Jackson – STL

Thought Tiki Barber was going to fall to me. This close. So go to the next best RB in your opinion. I had him last year in one league and he did just fine. Without Martz the mad bomber, should have at least as good a year, and probably better.

9

Greg Tucson

R. Johnson – CIN

All the top tier RB’s were gone but I still consider it essential to fill this position in the first round.  Rudi is consistent and plays for a good offense.

10

Joseph Pinecrest

L. Jordan – OAK

With the exception of Portis, whose injury scares me, I took the next best available RB on the board.

Round 2

11

Joseph Pinecrest

C. Williams – TB

Following the same logic as the last pick, I took the next best RB after Portis.

12

Greg Tucson

S. Smith – CAR

Since I don’t get another pick until late in the 3rd round, I wanted to use this opportunity to get a top player at any position.  I value a first-rate WR over a first-rate QB.

13

Joe Blake

R. Bush – NO

You're kidding, right! Watch the highlight reel from last weekend. Hit replay. Repeat 16 times.

14

Holden Ridge

C. Portis – WAS

You have to get a RB in the 1st two rounds. He's the next best, even with the injury. I'd rather take a chance on a proven player; than an unknown. Just make sure you get his back up at some point to hedge your bets.

15

Chris Slater

T. Owens - DAL

The media is working hard to find a controversy and the best they can do is to follow his hamstring's progress.  Please.  When it counts TO will show why he is a great receiver.  He saves the clubhouse destruction till late in the year, so he will get you your points this year.

16

Ryan Huntgate

D. Davis – HOU

Dom Davis has been productive despite Houston’s woes over the last few seasons.  He should be even more so now that a new offensive-minded head coach is in town and Reggie Bush is in a different town.

17

Mike Fairhill

W. McGahee – BUF

Been reading some good things about McGahee, although this offense could be a potential mess.

18

Brian Sullivan

B. Westbrook – PHI

The most dynamic part of Philly's offense, BW will get plenty of chances -  as long as he stays healthy.  Expect more scoers from him this year, as Reid will run the ball more.

19

James Knight

C. Johnson – CIN

I was not thrilled with the RB’s on the board at the time, so I chose the best available stud WR’s in the game.  His production is dependent upon Palmer getting better sooner rather than later.

20

Johnny Oaktree

C. Taylor – MIN

Maybe a bit early, but the best RB on the board at the time, at least I thought so, I did want Chad Johnson here.

Round 3

21

Johnny Oaktree

L. Fitzgerald – ARI

I really like this offense this season, Fitz should put up monster numbers.

22

James Knight

T. Holt – STL

I was hoping to Fitzgerald, but I didn’t count on it.  I was happy to see Holt available as Chester Taylor was taken as the first part of the wrap-around picks.  This gives me another stud WR and also gives me protection if Johnson performs like a #2 until Palmer gets back.

23

Brian Sullivan

R. Moss - OAK

I know the preseason has been ugly, but he and Brooks will get it together.  Once they get on the same page expect plenty of long scores from this still talented receiver.

24

Mike Fairhill

M. Harrison – IND

Had to grab a stud WR, especially in this offense, that has a questionable running game.

25

Ryan Huntgate

J. Walker – DEN

With 2 RB’s in the fold, I saw value in grabbing the new #1 wideout in Denver.  Walker has performed well in preseason and should put up big numbers this season.

26

Chris Slater

J. Jones - DAL

I know fantasy pundits keep shoving Barber in as competition, but it's Jones that Parcell's really wants to be his stud.  In their more dynamic offense this year, he will flourish.

27

Holden Ridge

A. Boldin – ARI

The big names at WR are gone, so get the best that's left. If you are drinking the Cardinals "Kool Aid" then they are much improved. If not you hope for something close to last year. At 27 you could do a lot worse.

28

Joe Blake

C. Chambers – MIA

Please! He had a great year with nobody, his brother nobody and their cousin nobody throwing to him. Having Culpepper there should benefit him, but there are no guarantees. Hope for a better year than last, and settle for last years stats.

29

Greg Tucson

K. Jones – DET

Jones gives me my 2nd RB in the draft.  His production has been hit or miss in the past but he’s the clear-cut starter under Mike Martz’s offensive tutelage.  He’ll have a great year.

30

Joseph Pinecrest

H. Ward - PIT

I was happy to see that a quality WR made it down to me this late.  Ward is in that ‘tweener class stud and good WR, but he is a solid WR to go after selecting 2 RB’s.

Round 4

31

Joseph Pinecrest

R. Wayne – IND

I needed another good WR, and I felt it was too early to take Gates (although I considered it).  I was very happy to have Wayne as my #2 WR as he could be some teams #1 WR.

32

Greg Tucson

D. Mason – BAL

Reunited, and it feels so fine.  McNair to Mason has looked good in years past, it’s looked good in the preseason, and it will be good all year long.

33

Joe Blake

A. Gates – SD

You need a tight end. So why not get the best. As good or better than the WR's on the board. Rivers looks good enough that there shouldn’t be any severe drop off.

34

Holden Ridge

W. Parker – PIT

I needed another RB. Featured guy on the defending Super Bowl champs. You could do a lot worse. Won't get the goal line carries, but has the speed to get long TD's and will get yardage. Figure about 8 TD's and you won't be disappointed, especially in the 4th round.

35

Chris Slater

R. Williams - DET

I may have grabbed him a bit early, but by the end of the season you'll know why.  He will be the Detroit first rounder who actually turns out to be a stud.

36

Ryan Huntgate

J. Horn – NO

I’m betting Joe will return to 2004 form this season thanks to the arrival of Drew Brees, Sean Payton, and Reggie Bush.

37

Mike Fairhill

S. Moss – WAS

Brunell has a ton of weapons this year, but Moss is still #1.

38

Brian Sullivan

D. Jackson - SEA

D Jack is a safe bet to get you scores and yards.  He is about as comfortable in Seattle's offense as you can get.

39

James Knight

R. Droughns – CLE

I needed a RB or a WR at this point, so I took a solid if unspectacular RB in Droughns.  With two WR’s on my roster already, I needed to fill the second RB position before the talent dropoff got worse.

40

Johnny Oaktree

P. Burress – NYG

With back to back picks here, I wanted to load up on WR's, got 2 potential studs.

Round 5

41

Johnny Oaktree

A. Johnson – HOU

Should enjoy a solid bounce back year.

42

James Knight

D. Driver – GB

After 2 more WR’s went off the board, I realized I should have taken Burress, because Droughns would have been available 2 picks later. Although Driver is a solid #1 WR, Burress would have looked better as my backup for bye weeks.

43

Brian Sullivan

J. Lewis - BAL

I like him as my 3rd running back.  With a better passing game teams can't send 8 to the box anymore.  With Anderson's presence to motivate him, he should get back on track.

44

Mike Fairhill

W. Dunn – ATL

I wanted to get a 3rd back that is still a clear cut starter, the best one on the board.

45

Ryan Huntgate

F. Gore – SF

Gore is another clear-cut starter at RB and has a huge upside.  With three RB’s on my roster I can start to focus on other positions of need.

46

Chris Slater

D. Foster – CAR

As long as he stays healthy - a big if - he can have a monster year.  There is some risk here, but to get a guy in the 5th round who might put up 1st rounfd numbers seems like a good deal.

47

Holden Ridge

R. Smith – DEN

For the 1st time since the Big, White, Bulls eye was there; he has a real WR on the other side. Don't expect Steve Smith numbers, but 8 TD's and 800-900 yds very possible.

48

Joe Blake

TJ Housmandzadeh – CIN

Chad Johnson's partner in crime had a pretty good year, and with Henry in court, jail or cut; more balls go to the #1 and #2 receivers. Oh yeah, they love to run the reverse with him, and usually scores at least once a year on this play.

49

Greg Tucson

T. Gonzalez – KC

Since my top two RB’s aren’t elite, I want to have high end players at as many other positions as possible.  Gonzo fills this need at TE nicely.

50

Joseph Pinecrest

L. Evans – BUF

I really wanted Galloway at this pick, but he had the same bye week as 2 of my other players.  I’m not sure of the value of this pick.  Only time will tell.

Round 6

51

Joseph Pinecrest

T. Heap – BAL

I debated taking a QB here, but I felt it could wait until the next round as QB’s have not really been taken yet.  I felt that I got the third best TE at this spot.  This should solidify my starting lineup as McNair loves throwing to the tight end.

52

Greg Tucson

T. Brady – NE

Continuing my theme from rounds 2 and 5, I’ve added a top QB to my roster.  I think Brady will put up numbers regardless of whether or not Branch reports to the team, but I’d still prefer to see Branch on the field.

53

Joe Blake

N. Burleson – MIN

Lets see, the #2 guy on one of the best offenses in football. Young, talented, signed long term in an area that he grew up in. Should have a terrible year. What was I thinking?

54

Holden Ridge

J. Shockey – NYG

A TE is required, and the top 3 are gone. Who you gonna call? When not hurt or shooting his mouth off, he's pretty good. Check out last year's numbers.

55

Chris Slater

L. Coles - NYJ

Coles and Pennington are soul mates.  They really connect well.  Now that Chad has the QB job solid, Coles will be his #1 guy.  That works as my third option.

56

Ryan Huntgate

J. Witten – DAL

Shockey, Gates, Heap, and Gonzalez are off the board at this point.  It looks like my last chance to get a top TE and I’ll take it.

57

Mike Fairhill

LJ Smith – PHI

TE's started going, and with T.O. gone, someone has to step up in Philly.  The Philly WR's are too young to lead.

58

Brian Sullivan

M. Muhammad – CHI

He had a solid year last year, and should improve those numbers this year with consistent QB play.

59

James Knight

A. Crumpler – ATL

I needed a QB and a TE, and I didn’t want to choose the wrong QB, so I went with the safe pick and took a TE, knowing the next guy was bound to take a QB with one of his 2 picks, and then I would take my QB then. (That way I can place the blame on the other owner for screwing up my draft)

60

Johnny Oaktree

R. McMichael – MIA

With the TE run going strong, I didn’t think McMichael would last this long.

Round 7

61

Johnny Oaktree

D. McNabb – PHI

I think McNabb will do all he can to get his team back into the postseason.  I expect solid numbers.

62

James Knight

D. Culpepper – MIA

As I expected McNabb was taken, I then had to choose between Palmer and Culpepper.  Since Palmer is not playing yet, I went with the QB taking some reps and playing in games.  Culpepper also had his injury in Oct/Nov last year whereas Palmer had his in January.  Culepper has had more time to recover.

63

Brian Sullivan

C. Palmer – CIN

Regardless of when he gets back, he is a monster with a great offense that lives on it's passing game.  Nice to find him in the 7th round.

64

Mike Fairhill

M. Hasselbeck – SEA

I hate getting caught in runs, but with QBs coming off the board and seeing Hasselbeck still there, I couldn’t pass him up.

65

Ryan Huntgate

E. Manning – NYG

Eli will have a huge year and I’m happy to grab him in the 7th round.

66

Chris Slater

C. Cooley – WAS

I passed on the big TE's and am hoping to get the last laugh.  As Cooley came on last season he became a favorite of Coach Gibbs, and a primary option towards the goal line.  Watch him outplay the tight ends who were drafted ahead of him.

67

Holden Ridge

J. Galloway – TB

Had a remarkably solid year last season. Much like a car it's not how many miles, but what kind. At 35 still has surprising speed and quickness. Also plays in warm weather on grass. Great for aching knees.

68

Joe Blake

J. Delhomme - CAR

He's been on one or more of my fantasy team's the last 3yrs. Reliable and won't kill you with the god-awful game ala Brett Favre. Also his team is favored to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

69

Greg Tucson

C. Brown – TEN

I need another RB to hedge my bets on having a clear 1-2.  I’m betting Lendale White’s weight and attitude will keep him firmly behind Brown, and Travis Henry is surrounded by trade rumors.

70

Joseph Pinecrest

M. Bulger – STL

The STL offense should be good again.  They will not be pass happy as under Martz, but that should enable Bulger to stay healthier too.

Round 8

71

Joseph Pinecrest

C. Dillon – NE

I needed a backup RB as most of my starters have been filled.  Dillon gives me a bonafide RB especially if he’s healthy.  I will need to try and get Maroney with one of my next two picks to be safe.

72

Greg Tucson

M. Jones – JAC

Jones is big, fast, and has great hands.  He’ll break out this season and be a nightmare in the red zone for opposing defenses.

73

Joe Blake

T. Jones – CHI

It's the 8th round and I need a back up RB. Since its dice rolling time, I'll trust the guy who's established, and got pretty good numbers running into 8 and 9 man fronts with Orton QB'ing. The QB situation should improve here one way or another. If Benson does become the guy, most likely will get traded to a team that needs a #1.

74

Holden Ridge

E. Kennison – KC

Every year you look at his numbers and say,"I'll remember him next year”. This year I actually did. No complaints for a 3rd receiver 74 picks into the draft.

75

Chris Slater

K. Warner – ARI

Passed on a few blue chip options to take a flier on a guy leading a potentially explosive offense.  Great receivers, a back that can catch the ball and a rookie behind him that will not be starting this year.  As long as the O-line gets him enough time, we might just see the Warner who St. Louis fell in love with.

76

Ryan Huntgate

S. Parker – KC

I need a 3rd WR on my roster at this point and I like guys with upside.  Parker has all kinds of upside and all reports indicate he’s poised for a huge year.

77

Mike Fairhill

D. Branch – NE

Yes I know he is not in camp because of a contract dispute, but he will be playing this season, and I got great value for him here.

78

Brian Sullivan

Chicago D/ST

With my starting slots filled, I grabbed the best defensive unit out there.  Chicago is a significant step over the rest - and I'll take those points each week.

79

James Knight

J. AddaiIND

I needed another RB with upside, and the next owner did not have any backups, so I knew he was taking an RB.  I chose the one with the upside of potentially being the #1 back late in the season.  I will try and get Rhodes with the wrap-around pick.

80

Johnny Oaktree

D. Rhodes – IND

I wanted to take Rhoads and Addai with these back to back picks, but my plans were foiled with Addai going right before this pick.

Round 9

81

Johnny Oaktree

C. Benson - CHI

My initial game plan was to take Thomas Jones and Benson here, but when Jones was taken earlier, I switched to the Indy duo, but those plans never materialized either, so this is what I am left with.  He could turn out to be the starter at mid season.

82

James Knight

Reg. Brown – PHI

I still needed a D/ST, but Brown had too much upside as the #1 WR in PHI.  This could be a great value at this pick.

83

Brian Sullivan

D. Clark - IND

With Harrison slowly showing his age, Manning will look more for Wayne and Clark.  Clark's size makes him a good red-zone target as well.

84

Mike Fairhill

L. White – TEN

I need WR help, but since I feel that position is deep, I wanted to sure up my RB position

85

Ryan Huntgate

B. Lloyd – WAS

The Redskins have the perfect storm at WR this season and I want a piece of it.  Lloyd will put up nice numbers playing alongside Moss.

86

Chris Slater

L. Maroney - NE

Maroney is one Dillon injury from stardom.  As it is he will likely steal enough carries early on to merit playing if you need him, and by late season he should be the primary back.

87

Holden Ridge

T. Bell – DEN

He’s the best running back in Denver whether "The Genius" admits it or not. Shanahan says Mike Bell. Mike Bell? Ron Dayne? Tatum will be starting sooner than later.

88

Joe Blake

T. Green – KC

Having been burned in the "I'll wait for the back up quarterback sweepstakes” before; my advice is get a good one. This is the most injured position, and the one that can affect your team the most. Especially in leagues that penalize for interceptions. You need 2 good QB’s. Unless you are very lucky. Always check the bye week on this position, for obvious reasons.

89

Greg Tucson

M. Clayton – TB

Clayton is the tall possession type receiver who is dangerous in the red zone, especially when a burner like Joey Galloway is on the other side.  Assuming his latest bout with turf toe is as minor as indicated, he’ll be a solid producer as he and Simms continue to mature together.

90

Joseph Pinecrest

A. Green – GB

Unfortunately Maroney was gone by my pick.  I took Green, because he is scheduled to be the #1 guy as the season progresses.  I do not need him early, but I could always use depth later.

Round 10

91

Joseph Pinecrest

Pittsburgh D/ST

I needed a defense, and I got the highest one still on the board.

92

Greg Tucson

Buffalo D/ST

Not my best pick honestly.  I could have waited until the 15th round most likely.  But a cold weather team coming off a bad season with a new defensive head coach has promise.  And they get to play the Jets twice.

93

Joe Blake

A. Bryant – SF

Yeah they're going to be bad, but not as bad. New co-ordinator Norv Turner, doing what he's best suited for will help Alex Smith. This in turn means better offensive numbers across the board. Word out of camp is that Bryant has been very impressive and is the clear #1. That said; he's my 4th WR, in the 10th round; so I'm not taking a huge gamble and may get decent reward.

94

Holden Ridge

M. Barber – DAL

Does anyone have faith in Julius Jones? Barber is the stronger, bigger back that Parcells likes. Worse case scenario, he splits time and gets the goal line carries. Best case, he's the starter getting the bulk of the carries and scoring the TD's.

95

Chris Slater

Carolina D/ST

I like when you can get a team that not only has a great defense, but a strong offense as well.  That means a well rested crew steps onto the field each time - ready to get me points without breaking a sweat.

96

Ryan Huntgate

Baltimore D/ST

Ditto what Chris said.  Baltimore’s revamped offense should give the defense more time to breathe, and Ray Lewis got the run stuffer he wanted.

97

Mike Fairhill

K. Johnson – CAR

I am counting on Smith's hamstring injury to be nagging all year.  Johnson may have lost a step, but can still get the job done.

98

Brian Sullivan

T. Williamson - MIN

With KRob's recent arrest, Williamson becomes the best option in town.  Talyor may be the possession guy, but Williamson will get the glory.

99

James Knight

Tampa Bay D/ST

I was very happy to get this defense in round ten.  We’ll see if I feel that way later in the season.

100

Johnny Oaktree

E. Wilford – JAC

Even though Matt Jones is everyone's favorite sleeper this year, Wilford should open some eyes. He played well last year.

Round 11

101

Johnny Oaktree

B. Edwards – CLE

I realize he may not play until October, but he is my 5th WR, I can afford to select him here.  He will be a stud when he gets healthy.

102

James Knight

J. Plummer – DEN

With Culpepper’s knee a concern, I had to make sure I got a quality backup.  Plummer is a solid backup who can have monster games.

103

Brian Sullivan

K. Curtis - STL

Bruce is on his way out and Curtis is on his way in.  A steal in the 11th round.

104

Mike Fairhill

D. Bennett – TEN

I wanted Kevin Curtis here, but was taken right before my turn, I had to settle for Volek's favorite target.

105

Ryan Huntgate

B. Favre - GB

Amazing that Brett fell this far.  He will light it up in what may be his final season, especially if the Packers are losing more often than not.  Since I already have Eli Manning, I’m loving my QB situation now.

106

Chris Slater

M. Vick - ATL

Yes, I know.  He is a mediocre QB at best.  I agree.  He has been working on it, but who really cares.  Vick will run for 700+ yards and several TDs as well as putting up his mediocre numbers.  Not to bad for my second option.

107

Holden Ridge

K. McCardell – SD

Rivers is not looking too bad. Think a little better than Carson Palmer's 1st year. McCardell is not getting any younger, but still manages to get open and produce year in and out. Injury would be the only concern, but he's my 5th receiver, I can live with that.

108

Joe Blake

C. Bradford – DET

All you 1st round picks not starting raise your hand. Well Bradford isn't one of them, and better than any 2 of them put together. He's my 5th receiver and it's the 11th round. The #2 receiver in a Mike Martz offense usually has a real good year. When drafting back ups, even your 5th receiver, always try to get people who it appears will be starters. You can take a chance on unknowns or unprovens in later rounds. Just remember injuries happen, even to you. That late round flyer may have to start for you one week.

109

Greg Tucson

D. Williams – CAR

This is a planned keeper pick as a late-round 4th RB selection.  If DeShaun Foster has any more injury problems, Williams will have extra value this season.

110

Joseph Pinecrest

J. Porter – OAK

I do not like the OAK situation nor Porter’s current mental outlook.  However, I needed another WR and he is better than all of the remaining WR’s on the board at this point.  So I hope he actually plays or gets traded.  This is a high risk, high reward pick.

Round 12

111

Joseph Pinecrest

H. Miller – PIT

I felt that I got another solid TE.  He is good enough to become my starter, but at least a bye week protection.  I could always use him as trade bait later on if something happens to one of my players.

112

Greg Tucson

T. Glenn – DAL

Glenn may not have quite the numbers he had last season now that T.O. is around, but he’s a steal in the 12th round regardless.

113

Joe Blake

Seattle D/ST

Probably could have waited another round for them, but I wanted them and nobody else was here that would make me have 2nd thoughts. Generally, I wait for my Def and Kickers until late rounds; because as Neil Rackers proved last year, there will always be someone at these 2 positions who has an unexpectedly good year.

114

Holden Ridge

Philadelphia D/ST

They are being given no respect anywhere, and thus far the starters have looked real good. Potential for a lot of sacks and turn overs.

115

Chris Slater

D. Givens – TEN

Givens was brought in to provide some leadership to the Titans receiving corps.  Though Bennett is the #1 guy, Givens will stay healthy and produce some solid numbers.  A good bye week/injury fill-in.

116

Ryan Huntgate

E. Moulds – HOU

Moulds is getting older and his stats show it, but as a 5th receiver he has value in the 12th round.

117

Mike Fairhill

V. Davis - SF

I hear a lot of good things about this rookie TE, so I wanted to take a chance, since he is only my backup at the position.

118

Brian Sullivan

J. Kitna – DET

If Martz can make Warner look good, imagine what he can do with Kitna.  A great option until Palmer is all the way back from his injury.

119

James Knight

F. Taylor – JAC

Taylor is still supposed to be the starter in Jac.  This is a great value pick for a potential #1 RB in this league.  After I hit the send button, I realized that Taylor has the same bye week as Addai and Droughns, so this did not turn out to be such a good pick after all.  Unless a trades happens, waiver wire here I come!

120

Johnny Oaktree

K. Winslow – CLE

I didn’t want to take back to back Browns, I wanted Vernon Davis, but Winslow was my 2nd choice.

Round 13

121

Johnny Oaktree

D. Bledsoe – DAL

Bledsoe should have been drafted as a starter, for him to fall this far, I feel extremely thankful.

122

James Knight

R. White – ATL

Mike Vick has to throw the ball to someone other than Crumpler, and his favorite receiver is gone for the season (Finneran).  White is supposed to be the guy, but does anyone really ever know with Atlanta’s passing game.

123

Brian Sullivan

A. Vinatieri - IND

Mr. Clutch kicking in a dome - it almost seems unfair.  As long as Indy gets him close, he'll hit them every time.

124

Mike Fairhill

M. Brunell – WAS

I wanted David Carr, but I realized he had the same bye week as Hasselbeck, so I settled with Brunell.

125

Ryan Huntgate

N. Rackers – ARI

The obligatory kicker choice.  He’s a good kicker with good home field weather and an explosive offense.

126

Chris Slater

D. Gabriel – OAK

I took a flier on Gabriel, a good young receiver who will get his throws while Moss draws the doubles.  Porter is so far in the doghouse that Gabriel will remain the second option in Oakland this year.

127

Holden Ridge

S. McNair – BAL

I needed a back up and the fact that McNair was still here this late was shocking. Will be a starting QB in deeper leagues.

128

Joe Blake

D. Akers -PHI

See the comments from my esteemed colleague concerning their defense. He was hurt last year, but isn't this year. Let others go strictly by the list and keep him in mind.

129

Greg Tucson

D. Brees – NO

I love Brees as a 2nd QB, especially this late.  He’ll have a lot of weapons at his disposal and a chip on his shoulder to prove he can get it done outside of San Diego.

130

Joseph Pinecrest

C. Simms – TB

I needed a backup QB, backup D/ST, and a kicker.  I really feel that Simms will continue his progression to get to the next level that he was showing at the end of last season.  He was too good of a value at this point to walk away from.

Round 14

131

Joseph Pinecrest

Jacksonville D/ST

In needed a starting K, but as you know that can wait until the last round,  I debated whether to add another position player, but I did not want to risk it, so I drafted the highest defense still left on the board.

132

Greg Tucson

J. Brown – SEA

Seattle’s offense should continue to hum along nicely and give Brown lots of fantasy value.

133

Joe Blake

V. Jackson - SD

Second year receiver will probably win the #2 spot with his play in camp and pre-season. Big, strong and quick. Exactly the kind of player I'm willing to gamble on late.

134

Holden Ridge

J. Elam – DEN

You need a kicker. You need a reliable kicker. You need a reliable veteran kicker. Elam is sitting there; you take him. Thin air doesn't hurt.

135

Chris Slater

M. Vanderjagt - DAL

Dallas will get Vandy plenty of chances to put up points this year, even if not every game is in a dome.

136

Ryan Huntgate

B. Watson – NE

I think Watson will have a great year and either supplant Witten as my starting TE or act as nice trade bait in the middle of the season.

137

Mike Fairhill

S. Graham – CIN

The 7th kicker selected?  I had him #2 in that category.  Boy, did I get lucky!

138

Brian Sullivan

B. Troupe – TEN

Troupe is an underrated TE option so I figured I could get him late.  He will put up good numbers from the TE spot.

139

James Knight

L. Tynes – KC

I needed a backup TE and a K.  I wanted Troupe, but he went the pick ahead of me.  I regrouped and chose Tynes who should get plenty of chances in the high powered Chief’s offense. Of course most of them will be PAT’s after LJ scores.

140

Johnny Oaktree

J. Wilkens – STL

Best kicker left on my list.

Round 15

141

Johnny Oaktree

Indianapolis D/ST

I never value D's high.  I waited until the final round and I got one of the highest fantasy scoring D's from last season, hopefully they can repeat that performance.

142

James Knight

J. Stevens – SEA

I was still smarting from losing Troupe, that I drafted Stevens on potential and trade value, fully knowing he and Crumpler have the same bye week.  After the draft was over, I found out Stevens got hurt and will be out at least 6 weeks.  Now I have two people available to drop when free agency begins.

143

Brian Sullivan

M. Turner – SD

I took LT early, so Turner is my handcuff.  He is also a talented back who would do nicely if LT did go down.

144

Mike Fairhill

Dallas D/ST

I think they are a solid sleeper D this year, I hope I am right!

145

Ryan Huntgate

Arizona D/ST

The Ravens defense should be my weekly starter.  The Cards can fill in on a bye week and then act as drop-bait for a surprise skill position player.

146

Chris Slater

D. Blaylock - NYJ

Someone has to run the ball in NY, and Blaylock could win the job.  I know the Jets are fishing for help, but there really aren't any great options for them.  Blaylock may play his way into the gig - I'll be watching the preseaon carefully.

147

Holden Ridge

L. Betts – WAS

As referenced with the Portis pick, make sure to get the back up. I just did.

148

Joe Blake

W. Lundy – HOU

Who? The probable starter in Houston that's who. Davis' knee is not a good situation and he's #2 on the depth chart. You can check it out. His long run last week was a pre- curser of his ability. He fits their new offensive strategy the best of all the back ups.

149

Greg Tucson

Atlanta D/ST

The Falcons D should rebound after a poor 2005.

150

Joseph Pinecrest

J. Feely – NYG

I realized that Stallworth and McAllister were inexplicably missed during the draft, but unfortunately we have a rule that a complete starting lineup must be filled by the end of the draft, and I still needed a kicker.  Oh well. Hopefully you and I learn this lesson so that we can use the last pick for cases just like this.
