The quick striking snake is back for another season. Credited as one of the three bots that started a craze of SHW rammers, Copperhead is a hard-driving monster through and through. it's current version is the same chassis used in defiance but with a new drivetrain/suspension set-up. The power system is still a 48V NiMh system allowing maximum power and torque from the drive motors. This version uses 8 Tork EM45OC motors at 6.2 HP each totalling a massive 49.6 HP in the drive system. In order to effectively put all this power on the floor, it uses dual wheels. Each motor is bolted to a pair of Tractical speed directionals (a larger version of the wheels used on SWAT 2-3). The secret to making this drivetrain even more effective is that it is not bolted directly to the chassis. instead all 4 motors on each side are bolted to a free floating spring loaded plate with a stiff X-brace connecting both sides together. This does two things. In turns, it increases body roll for more traction and greater turning speed. When attacking, the suspension allows the bot to "power-dive". This means that the bot's power is stopped during a full speed ram, causing the front end to drop. This allows a solid bolted wedge to act like a hinged wedge and more effectively get under other bots. Copperhead is also built like a tank. It's chassis is 9/16" thick aluminum over 1 1/2" square steel tubing. The front V-Plow is 3/8" spring steel, making it extremely tough and is bolted on 3 sides, for a stronger union to the chassis. The plow has 2 extended teeth at the top of the plow for gripping opponents and tearing into them during rams. Also, if inverted, these teeth act as wedges themselves. For an increase "cool factor" the bot was given a custom airbrushed paint job.
