Chapter Nine

They fought their way to the front of the palace since their stamina was really giving out, and there they found Yui standing in the middle of the courtyard, smiling like nothing was wrong with this scenario. "Yui! Where's Miaka!?" Lina demanded, and Yui only smiled sweetly and waltzed in her direction.

"She's alive," Yui played around. "You must be Lina....I remember now since Nakago reminded me...that night at the shrine, it's amazing you survived that. How would you feel to go through that again?"

"You stay away!" Chichiri stepped in front of Lina, who was obviously scared. Lina recalled back to the last time she'd met Yui--the cause of all her pain. Lina felt like the wound was opening again, but there was no blood, no screaming, just pain.

"Ah, Chichiri...who do you choose to die? Miaka or Lina?" Yui smirked at the two of them and Chichiri froze--what kind of question was that? "Come on now, Chichiri. All you have to say is one name and you could have your precious priestess back. Isn't that what you want?" Chichiri didn't speak, rather looked in Lina's direction through the corner of his eyes. "Oh, I see...well then if you're that selfish, Miaka will be the one to suffer." Chichiri didn't respond, just lunged for an attack, but Lina was starting to get mad--and we all know what happens when Lina gets mad.

Nakago finally appeared to stop the mess that was brewing. "Lady Yui, please let me handle this," he said, staring in Lina's direction. Lina's anger settled with his icy cold glare and she was at a loss of thought suddenly. Everything was barren in her mind and all she could think was to take one step back. What other shit could he inflict on her? Chichiri tried to jump into his path, but Nakago knocked him off his guard with one flick of the wrist. "Stay out of this, cat boy." He turned to Lina. "What do you say to a little duel?"

Lina swallowed, but her mouth was dry, "Um..." she didn't know how to respond and she struggled to take a step back away from him. Chichiri was shaking his head furiously. Nakago's eyes flashed at her while she bit her lower lip nervously and struggled to find a way out of this. "You don't fool me for a minute."

"I'll take that as a yes," he chuckled, then lunged at her. She blocked the attack and kicked back at him. Swiftly, he dodged the move. "Come on, Instructor! Let's see who's the better Duelist!" As Chichiri ran in to help Lina, Nakago caught Lina off guard and kicked Lina in the side, using his powers to toss her all the way through the woods.

Lina landed in front of Garden, face down in the grass. Nakago charged out of the woods beside her. A transparent, rectangular prism fell down from the sky around them at the whim of Nakago's powers, no one could come in, no one could go out. Suddenly, Garden disappeared and the box provided some kind of block from everything outside. She felt as if she and Nakago were floating in an endless white abyss with just the two of them locked on a piece of land. Lina felt herself become angry, but for some reason, her sorceress powers weren't working!

"No powers, I sacrifice mine as well. Just so we can see who's the better Duelsit. What do you say, Instructor?" Apparently, Nakago had already thoroughly planned this out. Lina knew that what she thought wouldn't matter. Their battle began to attract eyes within Balamb Garden, including those of Selphie's. She looked out the window and saw a very strange sight: A transparent box around two people fighting. Although Lina and Nakago could not see outward, others could see in. Selphie squinted her eyes to get a better view.

"That...that's Lina!" she turned around and began to sprint. "Zell! Rinoa!"
