Chapter Eleven

He threw her off, "I'd like to see you try and stop me!" She jumped back and got into stance--this would be it. No more Nakago after this. He launched a series of unyielding attacks, punching and jabbing at every opportunity he could reach, but Lina, hands held behind her back merely jumped and flipped, light as a feather, out of the way. He got close to her only once and just as his fist reached out, Lina pressed her boot against it and pushed off, propelling herself towards the far edge of the arena. Finally, she charged in with her hands behind her back and kicked Nakago square against the cheek until blood leaked from his mouth. She continued with another kick to the face and she jabbed her knee into his stomach until he knelt onto the ground in pain. Lina jumped back, held her palms up as if joking she didn't have to use her hands. Nakago was finally convinced this was her true strength, "Who...the hell...are you?"

"My name is Lutrisius," she announced firmly and forcefully. "AND YOU DON'T FUCK WITH ME." Lina held her arms up to the sky and crashing down from the heavens came an unearthly light that enraptured her every feature until she was just a blinding outline with the most melancholy eyes you could ever see. Nakago's eyes widened as he gave one final attempt to destroy her; he leapt forward, but Lina did not falter.

She merely turned her head lightly to the side--arms still raised--so that Nakago could examine her flawless profile. She looked down, a single tear concentrated at the corner of her eye until it rolled down her cheek and dropped to the ground. The earth beneath them rippled out in Nakago's direction stopping him dead in his tracks. Lina's very morose gaze then turned so sullenly to him, pressed her arms straight out, and the light grew brighter and brighter until even everyone watching from outside the arena recognized the unearthly luminosity as a great power out of their reach.

Suddenly, the barrier shattered and Nakago went flying out, the light blinding everyone in sight. Finally, the light faded and rose back into the cotton candy clouds. Lina dropped her arms and hung her head with dizziness. Immediately, she heard a roar of cheering. Her eyes widened as she saw for the first time her audience--everyone in Balamb Garden crowded around the front gate and the balcony watching her performance.

"That's my instructor!" she heard Seifer call from the sidelines. "She kicks ass!!"

She backed away in shock until she turned and saw Zell and the others just feet away from her. "Zell! What-what's going on!?" Zell just caught her confused self in his arms and held onto her tightly. She felt so happy, so right in his arms; that's all she had ever really wanted. It was just then her energy left her and she fainted, right into him. Everyone was still cheering as Zell lifted her into his arms and carried her through the crowds to the Infirmary.
