Chapter Thirteen

By this time, Zell was already completely possessed. Inside, he was still fighting with all his might, but it externally it proved completely useless--he had become a mindless drone programmed only to respond to Sadie's voice, Sadie's touch, but what bothered him most was that he couldn't do anything about it while it was all happening. The two of them sat on a disheveled rock on the shore of the beach during low tide. Sadie leaned in closer towards Zell, hoping to snatch from him what she'd wanted all along--a single kiss would do the trick.

Lina, dizzy with pain, was aching from head to toe with a hot red searing. Nothing in the world could have distracted the frustration as she lay there wearily staring up at a bleak ceiling with a gaze that acknowledged how alone she really was.

Zell sat completely still, but Sadie seized the opportunity and leaned in for that single kiss-- complete satisfaction of all current circumstances.

Lina felt her entire self ache, what were her arms was now translucent. She looked up at the ceiling, dazed and miserable as a tear began to form right in the corner of her eye. The photo album sat on her desk still, half of the pages left untouched. Thoughts, thorough and quick flew through her mind--first meeting Zell, the others, fighting alongside them, falling in love in the most honest way possible, and everything else. Her story thus far flashed before her eyes.

Sally wasted no time--she leaned in and kissed Zell.

With that, Lina was gone. On her bed lay the necklace Zell had given her and her last teardrop quickly sinking into her pillow and fading into its bleakness.
