Chapter Sixteen

The tears just slipped from his grasp one by one, rolling down his cheek and adding onto his guilt, he heavy heart and his torn conscience. A drop landed right onto the heart of the necklace and spilled itself onto his desk--they were no more than scars now, memories of what he'd lost. The necklace however, thought otherwise; it suddenly gleamed, emitting such a faint glow that Zell in his misery could not recognize.

Back in Lina's room, right there on her bed, it triggered something, some strange faint glow began to shine. Zell cried more, it was no use anymore to try and go on without the relief of crying freely. More and more tears fell upon the silver necklace and suddenly, a girl appeared on Lina's bed. She looked around with her coffee brown eyes, blinked towards the ceiling and smiled. She sat herself up and stood in the hallway, looking down towards Zell's room, grinning. She rushed down in the open doorframe and chuckled.

"Hey there, handsome," she said. Zell turned around and had to wipe the tears from his eyes. He couldn't believe it.

"Lina!?" Zell stood and grabbed her, bringing her tightly into his arms. Suddenly, the pictures of Zell standing alone in the photo album were filling, reverting back to their normal selves with the two of them standing next to each other hand in hand and embracing in warm hugs and heartfelt smiles. He kissed her with a passion then placed around her neck the necklace now dry from its tears, but glowing with their fervent admiration for each other. "But.... how?? Why did you leave?? And how are you... back?"

"Calm down," Lina whispered in his ear and he sat down at his bed, Lina next to him. Zell was shaking a little and Lina only smiled as he held onto her tightly. It self so good to be home. When she was gone, she'd been trapped in a dark abyss, a void of nothingness with her scattered memories floating, drifting around her, taunting her endlessly. She knew, that if there was a hell, that was it. "Zell... when Gorld had control of me, she took a part of me with her. You're the only person who can keep me here. You're love is the only thing that is keeping me alive." She tried to explain. It was almost hopeless. Everything was so tangled. "I left because of Sadie... how your heart began to grow numb. I came back because you called me." Lina pointed at the necklace around her neck which was still glowing.

"Holy shit. It's been hell without you, I will never let it happen again," Zell promised.

"Zell. I know you won't," Lina said and she kissed him. The glow around her necklace eventually faded, but she did not. She stayed with Zell the whole night as they cuddled together on the couch and chatted and laughed as if nothing had ever gone wrong.
