Chapter Eighteen

Sally then walked into the room they were all in. Her eyes immediately fell on Zell who was holding Lina tenderly in his arms and placing another kiss on her lips lovingly. She immediately felt her own depression consume her. Her mental and public love for Zell was uncontrollable and yet it was her obsession that drove her towards him--not true love, and her consistent need for something that was out of her reach, but she couldn't help it; it was just that fixed frustration that would always control her and cause her to do the things she did. "Irvine's needed at the bridge," she muttered dully as if the life in her had been completely sucked out. Lina let go of Zell reluctantly walked to her.

"I'm sorry, Sally," she said so that the others couldn't hear her. They might actually try to stop her from apologizing. Lina was now apologetic, and she didn't want any more trouble with herself and Sally to arise, even though she never did want any of this to happen. Fact was, in the very beginning, because Zell was so obnoxious and anoying, he had turned to Lina for help on his manners since back then, Lina was a stiff extremely polite unknowing little girl whose childhood had ended early with an abrupt dead end.

"For what?" Sally asked in a hissing voice. Zell had wanted help with his manners because he thought he was attracted to Sally. In fact, Sally had been the only girl that Zell really hadn't scared away with his outrageous personality and outgoing chatter; in this case, Zell believed that he was attracted by this girl that stood out from the others. Lina had been put together with Zell to work on a Garden Project assigned by Headmaster Cid. Zell thought of as the perfect opportunity to learn some manners from her, but in the process, he made Lina become a lot more loose, became more well thought out himself, realized imediately that Sally was a major crybaby that annoyed the hell out of him, and that he was in love with Lina. Lina of course, blind to all "boy" pertaining situations, hadn't realized this until he had confessed.

"It's my fault you are the way you are," Lina confessed for Sally to hear. In fact...it was Sally's own fault she had made her the way she was, but Lina had contributed to it indirectly. When Zell had fallen in love with Lina, Sally had become like this: suddenly unhappy and depressed because the man she wanted didn't want her. There was silence for a moment and Sally thought about what Lina was trying to apologize to her for. She thought about all the times the hatred had taken over her and how many times she had let herself do the unthinkable. This was truly shameful and as much as she'd like to stay mad at Lina, she couldn't. Sally then smiled weakly.

"It's... alright," she said. She knew it was her chance to break the bitter. They walked away together. They both knew it would always be impossible to escape the tension there was between them just because of the events that had occured in the past and how Zell would only love Lina, and never Sally.

"I hear Nida's pretty lonely these days," Lina said jokingly. They both laughed.

And so, it became the beginning of a new friendship.
