Chapter Five

Zeku fell flat onto the ground and to her surprise, she felt no pain. She pushed herself up onto her feet and took a look around. A lot of other people where there with her. The scenery was actually pretty nice. Everything was sunny, yet misty, and there were fields upon fields of colorful wildflowers. The cliffs could have gone on forever; each small section of cloudy land was piled onto another, making it perfect for clear waterfalls streaming off the sides and piling down into the deep abyss. Zeku walked around cautiously, she didn't know where she was or how she had gotten there.

"Where am I?" she asked out loud, then wandered around for a little bit. "This is where the dead go after a sending...I'm not dead... am I?" She looked around some more. Zeku saw a girl, sitting nearby, crying her eyes out. Her sobs could be heard from miles away, but no one else seemed to be listening. "What's the matter?" Zeku asked her. The girl looked up; she had the most brilliant jade green eyes in all the world. Her hair was silky brown and flowing gently above her shoulders.

"Love," she said to Zeku simply. Zeku cocked her head to the side and stared into the girl's jade eyes curiously. "I loved him! I sacrificed myself to save him..." Zeku looked far into space now, thinking back as far as she could, but her impaired memory would not allow her to do so. She could not remember any "love," but when this girl mentioned it, she could still feel something inside of her jerk. "I'm Kira...who are you?"

"Oh... I'm Zeku," Zeku smiled and Kira's eyes flashed even though they were tear-stricken. "I wish I could help you, but..." A small light flickered nex to Zeku and suddenly, the small flame burst into a sizzling fire of silver shine ; it seemed as if it were a stage light shining down on a single person, but there was no stage, and this was definitely no play, no act. An image of Rikku appeared in the center of the light suddenly--yep, Rikku alright, the same confused look in her swirly green eyes.

"Zeku!" the image called out, for it was obvious it was just an image. Zeku stared back ta it, amazing. Was it a solid figure? If she tried to grab it, would it flicker away? "I didn't know you were dead!" Rikku didn't quite address the issue properly.

"I'm not! Get me out of here!" she cried. Kira sniffed, then blinked at the girl with great interest. So, this girl wasn't dead and yet here she was in the Farplane; the place where only the memories of the dead could survive.

"Grab my arm! This'll hurt!" Zeku held tight to Rikku's "arm" and found that she did not flicker--that for some reason, the living in the Farplane didn't quite click. She prepared herself for pain--some pain? MUCH pain...something that felt like a lightning bolt hit her in her back. She almost screamed, but tried to endure it. She should have guessed that switching dimensions might be such a painful experience to go through. Kira seemed hesitant to speak to Zeku because she could tell from Zeku's tightly shut eyes and slightly twitching arm that she was in immense pain, yet she knew she had to say something to Zeku before she left. Just one thing.

"Zeku!" Zeku's attention turned to Kira painfully before she was almost gone from the Farplane. Her borderline was now fading and by now, Zeku was numb to the pain. Zeku took one last glance at the mysterious and beautiful abyss that was the Farplane and she hoped she'd never have to see it again. "If you ever see someone named Squall Leonhart, tell him I'm sorry for...stabbing him-and that I love him!" Kira told her as quickly as she could because she saw that Zeku was just almost on the other side. Squall Leonhart wasn't in Zeku's memory, but she promised she'd do the best she could. She looked at Kira's strange jade eyes one last time, but then she looked at Kira like she was crazy.

"Wait--stabbing hi-?" Zeku was pulled out of the Farplane and disappeared from view.

"You alright?' Yuna asked Zeku, leaning down to get a good look at Zeku. Zeku'd been thrown onto the ground by the force of switching dimensions, but she was only now aware of it. She knew that Yuna felt partially responsible for the lurid event that had just taken place. Zeku was still thinking about what had happened; she could feel her heart racing furiously and the blood pumping through her body at a great rate, reminding herself that she was in fact, still alive. She didn't want to look up at Yuna, Paine, or Rikku because she didn't want to see their concerned faces; she was fine... she just needed to catch her breath... that was all.

"Yeah," Zeku replied and pulled herself up, sighing a sigh of relief. She was a bit in shock, couldn't find the right words to say...couldn't remember anything at all, actually--funny story...

"Do you remember anything in your past where you possibly...died?" Paine asked her in her slightly sarcastic, slightly serious ton eof voice. Zeku shook her head.

"No, I'm not a dead girl walking. I don't remember anything about that, but what I do know is that I'm not from here," Zeku said, taking a deep breath. "I'm from a different world, and I think the majority of what I can remember is from that world. My name was Liz there, and things were different. Much, much different."

"Okay, as long as you're not dead, Zee," Rikku chuckled nervously, but shrugged it off. Enough with this! Time to push on with their journey!
