THINGS TO KNOW

1.  Having depth on your roster is key.  As you have all witnessed, injuries do happen, and they can, and will affect the outcome of your team.  Look at some of the players that were drafted early in the draft that missed at least 2 or 3 weeks this year.  (Shaun Alexander, Clinton Portis, Steve Smith, Larry Fitzgerald, Kevin Jones, Donovan McNabb, Willis McGahee, and Trent Green).  Those are just a few that may have caused you a few extra unexpected losses.  I will agree, that if you are making a run at the big show around week 8, I would also recommend taking a risk and trading two mediocre players for one great player, if it fits my team properly, but relying on a core of 1 QB, 3 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE in most cases will not be enough, drafting that guy that gives you a little added depth at either the RB, or WR position plays a HUGE role every year.

2.  Keeping 2 RB's is the way to go… Unless you have Peyton Manning.  This year was a lesson to those that think keeping anything other than RB's or Peyton Manning is a good idea.  Lets look at the breakdown of this results.

        1. CNC Express (Sean) - QB Peyton Manning, RB Ladanian Tomlinson

        2. Pimp Chickens (Trevor) - RB Tiki Barber, RB Bryant Westbrook

        3. Venomous Ducks (Keith) - RB Steven Jackson, RB Edgerrin James

        4. Ball Busters (Casey) - RB Ronnie Brown, RB Shaun Alexander

        5. Silver-n-Black (Ryan) - RB Larry Johnson, RB Lamont Jordan

        6. South Side Pimpz (Kris) - RB Carnell Williams, RB Willis McGahee

        7. BadArsHoles (Aaron) - RB Clinton Portis, RB Rudi Johnson

        8. Tunawookians (Kazzy) - WR Terrel Owens, WR Randy Moss

        9. Moneyshots (Eddie) - WR Steve Smith, WR Chad Johnson

        10. The Orange Crush (Je) - WR Chris Chambers, WR Marvin Harrison

Call this a coincedence, but I can gurantee that I will not be keeping two WR's next year.  If you look at the playoff teams, there is only one player that is not a RB, and that of course is Peyton Manning.  You can take what you want out of this disection, but I would recommend giving up a draft pick and landing a solid RB, or Peyton Manning, if you would like a seat in the playoffs this year.

3.  Late Season Moves affecting next year?  I am a firm believer that many of your late season moves will affect your team in the following year.  Let's take this situation for example.  Week 14: Trevor is planning on keeping Kevin Jones for next year, because he racks up yards like a mad man.  Week 15: Kevin Jones is pronounced out for the season, with a 12 month recovery period.  STOP!  What should you do as an owner?  ….. Think….. Don't keep reading…. Further, make a decision now.  If you said, "Pick up Rookie RB Brian Calhoun" you are correct!  I missed out on this one, but it was going through my head.  Brian Calhoun has not played a whole lot this year mainly because he was also injured for the rest of the season after about week 9, however, that leaves a great opportunity for him to come back and start the first 12 to 14 weeks for the Detroit Lions next year.  Not the best team in the league, but come pre-season, he could be a stud for all that we know?  Rensing actually picked this player up, good job Keith.  What he may be able to do is trade Brian Calhoun to another team that may not have multiple keeper worthy RB's for a draft pick, "IF" and only "IF" Brian Calhoun comes out as a stud in the pre-season.

4.  Scoring Points is a must!  This year was a great example of why you need to consistently score a lot of points.  Records are great (12-1) but scoring 200+ every week is way more important.  I rode the record train as long as a could, but knew that I was not the best team out of the field of 10.  I honestly thought that my team was maybe third at best.  This league as you know, pays tribute to those that rack up the yardage.  TD's are an added bonus, but yardage will get you far.  Yardage, as in #1 RB Ldanian Tomlinson, and Yardage as in Drew Brees #1 QB in our league.  This years AFC Champion had LT, who broke the single season rushing record.  Last years Champion had Shaun Alexander who broke the single season rushing record.  I would recommend picking up a player that will win break the single season rushing record next year, that seems to be a key factor in winning it all.
