| Match 1 - Alexander Strub Wizards vs Team X Group E - Professor Xavier's School The eternal apprentice, Wuntvor, immediately fell to Professor X's psionic attacks. In the meantime, Elminster cast "Polymorph other" to turn Beast into a real beast, a gibberling, all-to-easily slain. Spelldor pulls steel out of Colossus in order to strengthen himself with "Steelskin." Gambit throws one of his trademark explosive cards, but Elminster has since cast "Protection from Abnormal Missiles" which deflects the card back at Gambit, burning his face. Spelldor and Colossus are still engaging in a battle of steel, but Professor X uses his psychic powers to implode Spelldor's mind from the inside. Meanwhile, Gambit has fallen prey to Elminster's "Abu Dalzim's Horrid Wilting." Thus it is now Colossus and Xavier vs. Elminster. One "Melf's Acid Arrow" from Elminster corrodes Colossus. Now it is down to X and Elminster. The rapidly tiring wizard realizes that he is up against an enchanter of great power, so he takes a big risk: he casts Summon Cacofiend. His mistake was not casting "Protection from Evil" first, though he excused it by thinking there was not enough time before X finished him like he had the others. The resulting spell opened a portal to the nether planes, releasing a Cacodaemon of tremendous power which immediately annihilates both Elminster and Professor X. Winners: DRAW Wizards (2-1-1) Team X (2-1-1) GROUP FINISHED Group Break Down Team X: 2-1-1 (TBS= 2) Wizards: 2-1-1 (TBS= -2) Band of the Red Hand: 2-2 The Tribe: 1-2-1 Team Hogwarts: 1-2-1 Since their tie gives both Team X and the Wizards the highest records for the group they both advance. Since their head-to-head is a draw, we use their TBS to break the tie and Team X will be the #1 Seed (against White Hand) and the Wizards will be the #2 seed (and fight Solo's Smugglers). Match 2 - Alexander Strub Goblins vs Tribesmen Group B - Manhattan The happy-go-lucky dragon boy Wyvern didn't last long when Hobgoblin's and Green Goblin's pumpkin bombs exploded his torso. Allure managed to bewitch Doc Ock long enough for Sponge to steal his powers, but as Octopus doesn't actually have any, nothing happened. Sponge gets strangled by the mechanical tentacles, but Allure escapes. Liquid Skeleton Key confronted Venom, who showed that his symbiote could also achieve a semi-liquid state and do crazy things. Allure distracts Venom, who thinks she's his ex-wife Ann Weying. (Hey, we never said Eddie Brock was bright.) Upon discovering his mistake, he slaughters her fairly easily. Turning to face Skeleton Key, he discovers that his slippery foe is nonetheless vulnerable to the Goblins' bombs and is now a sticky smear on the ground. Winners: Goblins (2-2) Tribesmen (2-1) Match 3 - Mark Ailshie NY Heroes vs Tribesmen Group B - Manhattan "Here I come to save the DAAAYYY!" Mighty Mouse charges into battle, fearless as always, Wyvern slashes with his claws, and Mighty Mouse seizes one long finger and whips Wyvern over his tiny rodent shoulder and into the side of a building. Wyvern hits with a crash, and Mighty Mouse zooms after him, miniscule fists flying. "Here I come to save..." >Fwoosh!< A blast of fiery breath turns MM into a flying, mouse-sized lump of charcoal. Meanwhile, Spiderman is surprised when Sponge ambushes him. His spider sense never gave a warning! Sponge is likewise surprised when Spiderman turns and blasts him with webbing. Because this is the comic book Spiderman, and not the movie Spiderman, the webbing is in fact not part of the mutation. It is science, so it is unaffected by Sponge's dissipation field. With his opponent securely wrapped in webbing, Spiderman makes short work of him. Elektra is having significantly more trouble with Skeleton Key. Her daggers are right on target, but Key simply flows his liquid form around the cuts, then forms his arms into scythe blades and cuts Elektra apart. And Daredevil meets up with Allure. She tries to tag him to activate her charm powers, but Daredevil has been doing his homework--he dances out of Allure's reach and fires his hook from a safe distance. The rope snakes around her throat and snaps her neck. "You'll pay for that, Devil!" Wyvern shouts and streaks to the attack. Daredevil dodges his first few swipes and retaliates with kicks and punches. Wyvern inhales to breathe flame, but Daredevil hears the inhalation and ducks. Spiderman, who has just arrived does one better--he shoots webbing into Wyvern's mouth and seals it shut. Wyvern, unable to control his magic fire, blows his own head off. Skeleton Key flows into one of the sewer grates. Spiderman yanks the grate off and calls to Daredevil to follow him. The Devil hesitates. He knows that the echoes in the tunnels will work havoc on his location radar. Finally, he joins Spiderman and the two heroes descend into the sewers. It is Skeleton Key's element. There is water to hide in along the ground, a hundred tiny pipes, near-invisible cracks leading to hidden rooms. He knows he could hide in these sewers indefinitely. But there are Tribesmen to avenge. He seeps up between Daredevil's feet, forms himself into one large spike, and drives himself into the blind man's back. Daredevil cries out in pain, and falls into the water. Spiderman leaps onto the wall and crawls along, safely out of the water, and listens to his spidey sense for any hint of when his attacker will reappear. His spidey sense tingles, and he leaps aside just as a spike punches through a crack in the wall. Spiderman dodges again, and then sprays a thick layer of extra-gooey webbing into Key's retreating form. The webbing coagulates with his arm, and Key has trouble extracting himself. "Funny thing about sewage," quips the webslinger. "It's mostly just trapped gasses." He pulls a match out of his belt, lights it, and leaps out of an open manhole, just seconds ahead of the fireball. Winners: NY Heroes (4-0) #1 Seed Group B Tribesmen (2-2) Match 4 - Brian Ailshie Kill Them All vs The Mob Group B - Manhattan Bullseye threw his first knife into Tendril's neck. Fluid that vaguely resembled blood spurted everywhere. Then it was Bullseye's turn to bleed. Wallflower just 'appeared' next to him and slit his throat. Carnage saw him and attacked, but before he could close all the way, Gorgon was there. She loooked him in the face, and the alien was a goner. Paralyzed completely, Gorgon and Wallflower made short work of him. The pair ran however when Scorpion started swinging his tail into the battle. Scorpion followed, but when he turned a corner, suddenly his foes were joined by his allies, the dead plant guy, and hordes of zombies. Even the best musclebound, poisonous being wouldn't stand much of a chance. And Scorpion's not really the best either. Winners: The Mob (2-2) Kill Them All (0-4) GROUP FINISHED Group Break Down NY Heroes: 4-0 Goblins: 2-2 (TBS= 5) Tribesmen: 2-2 (TBS= 0) The Mob: 2-2 (TBS= -1) Kill them All: 0-4 Since they swept the group NY Heroes take the #1 Seed, and fight the Classic Monsters.
