Dream sequences in the Friday the 13th films.
The inconsistancies in the Friday the 13th series can all be explained if you view the endings of all the films as dream sequences.
Friday the 13th-
The girl at the end is attacked by a zombie Jason kid in
the lake.
This turns out to be a nightmare,
and is contradicted by Jason being alive and an adult in part 2.
Friday the 13th Part
2-
The girl at the end is attacked by an unmasked
Jason with a machette in his shoulder.
This
turns out to be a nightmare, and is contradicted by a scene showing Jason still
lying there where he was shoulder chopped. Also, the unmasked long haired
wildman Jason contradicts how he looks in 3 and 4, so this is obviously a
nightmare version of Jason.
Friday the 13th Part
3-
The girl at the end sees Jason up and around after
getting an axe in the head, and then is attacked by a rotten zombie Pamela
Voorhees in a parallel to the ending of part 1.
This turns out to be a
nightmare, and is contradicted by Jason still being "dead", in the opening of
part 4, and that Pamela Voorhees was decapitated, and long since
buried.
Also, Jason's
appearance is contradicted by how he looks in part 4, so part 4 Jason must be
how he REALLY looks (at least when alive).
Friday the 13th: The final
chaptor-
Tommy Jarvis looks traumatized, and
kind of loony after his ordeal with killing Jason.
This, and Tommy's
resemblance to young Jason, seem to imply that the filmakers were going to make
Tommy the next Jason.
Nothing much really
happens here, but since Tommy DIDN'T become the new Jason, this is contradicted,
and could therefore be a dream.
Friday the 13th Part V: The new
Begining-
At the end, Tommy seems to see
the ghost of Jason, and then puts on the hocky mask, and attacks a fellow
surviver. The way this is filmed is consistant with the dream scenes in the
first trilogy, and is contradicted by Tommy being a good guy in part 6.
Also,
reference is made in the opening of part 6 to Tommy wanting to cremate Jason to
end the nightmares and hallucinations.
Plus, the opening of part 5 shows Tommy having troubling
nightmares of Jason, setting up right there that he has nightmares and
visions.
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason
Lives-
Nothing much happens here except for
Jason being chained to the bottom of the lake, and then just before the credits,
he opens his eye.
Take this as you will.
Friday the 13th Part VII: The
New Blood-
The telekinetic girl seemingly
ressurects the spirit of her dead father who dives out of the lake, and chains
Jason. This is consistant with the boy Jason/zombie Pamela Voorhees ghost
visions.
Also, she passes out, and awakens not sure if it was a
dream.
Nonetheless, Jason IS chained. I think
her father was a hallucination, and her telekinesis chained Jason.
Friday the 13th Part VIII:
Jason Takes Manhattan-
The ever controversial
"Jason melts, and turns back into a boy", scene.
This fits the pattern of
ghost visions in the water, and is contradicted by Jason being back in part 9.
My theory that "Jason goes to Hell", is 10 years later, so Jason ages back,
would also make up the difference.
But, I'm slightly uncomfortable with it,
as it requires a lot of supposition without direct evidence in the
film.
Having the meltdown be yet another boy Jason/Pamela Voorhees/TK girl's
dad drowning vision is consistant with that scene, the series, and the
contradiction of 8 and 9.
Also, having the toxic waste mutate rotten zombie Jason into lumpy
tumor ridden Toxic Avenger Jason in part 9 makes sense. It explains the coronor
determining his age to be in his 40's (how old he'd really be) and the nerdy
morticion calling him "maggot head", implying he's still the same
zombie.
Jason goes to
Hell-
Jason is pulled into hell by rockmen demons, and then
his mask is pulled down in by Freddy's hand.
Although, this sets up "Freddy
vs. Jason", and connects to "Freddy's Dead", this scene is reminiscant of the
scenes of zombie boy Jason pulling the girl down, Pamela voorhees pulling the
girl down, and TK girl's dad pulling Jason down.
Also, it contradicts the begining of
Jason X.
Jason X-
Corona Coming Attractions has a scoop report on the script of the
upcoming 10th Friday film.
According to the scoop, Jason really didn't go all
the way to Hell, and the military retrieves him to ty to make him a
weapon.
This goes awry of course, and Jason goes on a rampage.
Jason then gets frozen,
and reanimated 400 years later in the post apocolyptic future by space
archeology students. Of course, Jason then goes on a rampage.
There are also
rumors of Jason being rebuilt into a cyborg Jason!
The ending of course, is
unknown, but I'm betting on it being open to being a dream to make way for an
11th film.
After all, the plan has always been to make
it to part 13 someday!
