Friend to the Ring-bearer and King Elessar, made a Gaurd of the Citadel, and responsilble for saving Faramir son of Denethor from an untimely death.

**Peregrin 'Pippin' Took (13-63 FO age), the thrity-second Thain of the Shire- and one of the most notable Hobbit's of his day, being renowned also as a member of the Fellowship of the Ring and as one of the Captains who led the uprising of Shire-folk against the agents of the Wizard Saruman at the end of the War of the Ring. Pippin later became a Councellor of the reconstituted Northkingdom and remained a close personal friend of King Ellesar (Aragorn) throughout his life.

Pippin was born in Tuckborough in the year 1390 Shire Reckoning (2990 Third age), and was therefore only in his lat twenties (not yet 'come-of-age') when the great events of that time began to unfold. As recorded in the Red Book, both he and his kinsman Meriadoc 'Merry' Brandybuck learned somewhat of the Ring-bearer's (Frodo) plans before he even left the shire, and thus were able to pressure him into accepting their company on the road East (at that time, Frodo's plans did not extend past Rivendell). When the time came to allot the places in the Fellowship of the Ring Gandalf the Grey supported their inclusion in the Company. Later, both Pippin and Merry came into their own, influencing great events far beyond their understanding at the time.
Pippin himself went on to foolishly 'abstract' the Palantir of Orthanc and inadvertently mislead Sauron, then accompanied an exasperated Gandalf the White to the city of Minas Tirith where he swore his allegiance to the Steward Denethor (Faramir and Boromir's father) and was made a Gaurd of the Citadel for his pains. While in Minas Tirith Pippin witnessed the Siege of the City and was instrumental in saving Faramir, Denethor's Heir, from an untimley death. He later marched with the Host of the West to the Black Gate and fought honorably in battle there, slaying a Troll-chief!
Pippin was knighted by King Elessar (Aragorn) and afterwards returned to the Shire where, after the Battle of Bywater, he and Merry were afforded great honor and never rejected the chance to parade around in fine style wearing the armor of Rohan and Gondor. Their splendid apperance and their relatively enormous size (thanks to their drinking from the Entwash during their stay with Treebeard the Ent) impressed the Shire-folk to great extent. Pippin married Mistress Diamond of Long Cleeve and in the year 1434 he, Merry and Sam were appointed Counsellors of the North-kingdom.
The rest of Pippin's life was spent in great happiness. Like Merry, he kept the firendships he had aquired durning the War of the Ring. In Year 63 of the Fourth Age, he turned his office over to his only son, Faramir, and then rode with Merry to Gondor to spend the rest of their days among friends. He was laid to rest among the Great of Gondor, in the House of the Kings in Rath Dinen.
