Jan 31 2006.
Some
photos of my Warmoth stuff just to keep the retinas tickled.
OK
I know...I took them indoors with the lights on and a flash....
Photo1. The Necks
Basic
Gibson type necks. The bottom neck is
bound with an ebony fretboard. I don't think I'll be trying to make necks for
some time! LOL.
Photo 2. The LPS Body.
It's
very nice. The original plan was to bind it as a practice for the CS336, but
I'm now planning to do a 'false' binding a la PRS.
Photo 3. DAYLIGHT!!....aaaargh
If
you look at the end of the fretboard you can see a space between the
overlapping fretboard and the body surface. It doesn't appear at all front on and I guess on the 22 fret
teles & strats it's the norm but I don't like it.
This
threw me into brain cramp for a while. How was I going to do this part 'properly'?
I
read, reread despaired overestimated the degree of difficulty and after a day
or so realised the answers were staring me in the face in a number of pictures
on various sites & in various books. Although again I have to say, it is
not spelled out clearly anywhere.
I
was focussing on the neck pocket rout rather than the end of the fingerboard.
If I fix the neck angle on the surface from there back up towards the
neck the rout and positioning will still give the correct bridge fretboard
plane. Or so I believe at this point.
LOL!!.
I
have been extremely busy at work and so haven't done any practice on the drill
press or sanding drum or binding routing. Maybe tomorrow.
Also
we scored a new 'sing for supper' gig
one Sunday afternoon per month at one of the nicer local restaurants. This
little trio of sax and two guitars
plays dumbed down jazz. It's not my favourite genre as I am very much blues
rock and throw in licks from Harry J everywhere I can. The owner says 'anytime'
but we have another similar gig already and that's all we want...as long as the
lunch & red wine are good.
I'm
hunting up bodies for a big local Blues Festival later in the year.
Thanks to all for the encouragement so far.
