Who are Hector, Andromache and Astyanax? What is their relationship?

Prince Hector of Troy was the oldest son of Priam and Hecuba (although there is some controversy over that: it makes logical sense for him to be younger than Paris), and thus the heir to the Trojan throne. He was also a brilliant commander and warrior, the greatest of his people. During the Trojan War against the Achaeans (referred ti as the Greeks in the film), he married Andromache, the daughter of Eetion, who was the rules of Thebe before being murdered by Achilles. The two also had an infant son, called Astyanax by the Trojans, but Scamandrius by his father. Unfortunately, the loving and devoted family was torn asunder when Achilles killed Hector in retribution for the death of Patroclus. Troy fell shortly afterwards and Andromache was sold into slavery to Achilles' son, Neoptolemus. Neoptolemus also threw Astyanax off of the walls of Troy, to his death. This is how events played out in the traditional story.

The 2004 film, Troy, has a much happier ending. Hector is still killed by Achilles, but Andromache and Astyanax manage to survive by fleeing to Mount Ida during the sacking.

Hector is played by Eric Bana and Andromache is played by Saffron Burrows.
