WHAT IS JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG?

JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG is an United Artists film directed Stanley Kramer film that was released in 1961 and starred some of the most brilliant actors of the time, such as Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Richard Widmark, Marlene Dietrich, Maximilian Schell, Judy Garland and Montgomery Clift. The plot, in which the screenplay was a re-working of Abby Mann's earlier teleplay for the Playhouse 90 televison version (also featuring Schell), is a fictionalized account of the second series (specifically Case No.3) of the Nuremberg Trials, being that of the Nazi jurists. Many of the characters are based on their real-life counterparts: Lancaster's character, Ernst Janning, was based on Judge Franz Schlegelberger and Widmark's Colonel Lawson is very much like General Telford Taylor, one of the American prosecuters, to name a few examples. The Feldenstein case presented in the film is based on the real-life Katzenberger case. The film was also nominated for eleven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It won two: Best Adapted Screenplay for Abby Mann and Best Actor for Schell, who performed wonderfully as one of the German defence attorneys.
