Summary

what's YYH?:
Yu Yu Hakusho(should be Yuu Yuu Hakusho) is an anime/manga created by Yoshihiro Togashi. I heard that at first, Yuu Yuu Hakusho was supposed to be about Yuusuke dying and coming back to life(something like that), but then decided to make it into a fighting genre.
The first season consisted of some several cases. First, Yuusuke dies and comes back to life, he becomes a Reikai Tantei(spirit detective), then he goes and retrieves the three artifacts(treasures) of Reikai(enter Kurama and Hiei!), train with Genkai, destroy the Saint Beasts, rescuing Yukina, and fighting in the Dark Tournament(Ankoku Bujutsukai). That's season one. The second season is slightly different.

WARNING: SPOILERS! TURN BACK NOW!(unless you already know about the 2nd season)

After defeating Toguro in the Dark Tournament, Yuusuke has to stop Sensui Shinobu, a former spirit detective, from opening the gate connecting the Ningenkai(human world) and the Makai(demon world). Then, Yuusuke discovers about his past relative, Raizen, one of the three rulers of Makai, competing against two other rulers, Youmi and Mukuro. After that, the series ends.

behind the name:
Yuu Yuu Hakusho literally means ghost(Yuu) game(Yuu) white(Haku) book(Sho)(Well, that's what it means in Chinese for me). In the American version, Yuu Yuu Hakusho is Yu Yu Hakusho~Ghost Files~(although we don't say that part), which is still the same. Or it can be Poltergeist Report, same thing. The Filipino version is Ghost Fighter, which I think is... weird. But I don't know too much about it, other than the fact that they made some mistakes(ex: Kurama being a girl at first *laughs*) and that they changed their names(ex: Yuusuke=Eugene).

how long is YYH?:
Yuu Yuu Hakusho consists of 19 manga volumes, 129 manga chapters, 112 episodes, 6 OVAs, and 2 movies. The manga is somewhat different from the anime. It's much more violent, and Yuusuke smokes.
In the manga, it took longer for Yuusuke to become resurrected. It also has an extra chapter showing how Kurama and Hiei first met.
The OVAs are clips of the fights in the Dark Tournament, music videos of Yuusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei, and two specials which were the YYH cast's picture moment(*laugh*) and Koto's interview with Team Urameshi(*rofl*). I heard that there is also something called Eizou Hakusho and Yume Yume Hakusho. I believe that contains the music videos and Yume Yume Hakusho is some kind of parody which I have no idea about what. I've seen a picture of Kurama and Hiei in business suits, smiling! And there's this thing with Yuusuke and Botan. (I need to get it! >.<)
The first YYH movie didn't have a name and was rather short. It's about Koenma's past rival, Koashura, and how he wanted revenge. The second movie, called Yuu Yuu Hakusho: Meikai Shitoo nen Honoo no Kizuna (Mortal Combat in the Hell the Bond of Flame), was about losing the balance between the Makai, Reikai, and Ningenkai, forming the Meikai. Hinageshi, a ferry girl like Botan, played a rather big part in the movie.
