Seth looked down at the clock.  It was two p.m.  They had been on the road since seven a.m.  They were supposed to leave at six but Summer was late as always.  He didn't even know why she was here.  This past year had been so different for Seth after years of having no one he had two girls after him and when he finally made his choice, Anna, she moved back to Pennsylvania  shortly after, and then he was back to no one.

This trip was just going to be the guys.  However, Ryan invited Marissa when they were together and she had invited Summer.  Then shortly after Ryan invited her they had one of their fights.  But all arrangements had been made so Marissa decided to come along as just friends.  The whole ride had been silent except for Summer who kept asking if they were there yet.

Suddenly the car stopped throwing Seth forward and out of his thoughts, "What was that?" Seth asked.

"A bird," was all that came out of Marissa's mouth.  Seth who was sitting in the front seat looked up to find a huge mass of feathers and blood stuck in the windshield.

"Ewww!" Summer exclaimed as everyone got out of the car.

"Where are we?" Ryan asked.

"Somewhere in Arizona," Marissa said.  Then looking down at her cell she added, "I'm not getting a signal."

"Me neither," Summer said.

"Great so we're in the middle of nowhere with no communication," Seth said.

"I think there was a gas station a few miles back," Marissa said.

"I guess we start walking," Ryan said starting to walk back, "You guys stay here in case someone comes by."

"Someone should go with you," Seth said.

"I'll go," Summer volunteered following Ryan, "I don't want to stay here with Cohen."

"Thanks Summer," Seth said then he turned back to the car to get out of the heat.

A few hours later Ryan and Summer still hadn't found a gas station. "I think we're lost," Summer said.

"We can't be lost we're still on the road.  Let's just keep walking," Ryan said.

"Do you think something happened?" Marissa asked anxiously.

"You still love him don't you?" Seth asked.

"Do you still love Summer?" Marissa replied.

"I don't know if I actually ever loved her.  I think I just loved the idea of her," Seth said.

"Really? I think you're lying to yourself," Marissa said.

"Do you love him?" Seth asked.

"Yes and no, I mean I do love him but we've had so many chances and blown them all," Marissa said.

"Well maybe it's just not the right time," Seth answered.

"Maybe it never will be," Marissa said.  The next few minutes were deafening.  All of a sudden Marissa leaned over and kissed Seth.

"What the?" Ryan said coming up to the car jolting Marissa and Seth out of the kiss.  Seth looked up to find Summer staring at him in shock.

Summer turned back around.  She just wanted to get away, but Seth followed, "
Summer wait."

"How could you do this to me?" Summer asked softly.

"I'm sorry," Seth replied.

"Well you should be," Summer said getting into the tow truck that was going to take them back to the gas station.  Seth just stood there for a moment.  Everything was ruined and now there chance was ruined too.
