(Sequel for
Good luck and Goodbye)
He woke up
and blinked, trying to remember the dream that made him wake up so
suddenly. All he could feel was the
loneliness.
Morning has
always become his favorite part of the day, he didn’t even know why. But lately he hated it, and once again he
didn’t know why…
Maybe
because nobody’s there to wake up beside him. Nobody knows…
He crept
down from his bed and made his way to the bathroom without even noticing the
tears left in his cheeks from his last dream.
*****
He
remembered about his promise to Relena this morning. He promised to be her bodyguard for some time until she could
find someone else to replace him. The
last incident with Dekim Barton had really become world’s greatest catastrophe
and they decided to use the Perfect Soldier once again to get into his
mission--that is, protecting Relena.
She loved the idea of course, and Heero didn’t seem to complain about
the new assignment they gave him.
He walked to
one of the biggest room in the castle to pick her up. Relena was going to give her statement about the last incident
which involved her and it was his duty to follow her everywhere she went.
He knocked
the door and a maid opened it for him.
Smiled to him as she knew how much the vice minister had waited for
him.
“Come in,
Mr. Yuy.” She smiled. No answer from the stoic man as he entered
the room, finding Relena and another maid busily combing her hair.
“Ah, Heero. Wait
a moment. I’m brushing my hair, it will only took a while.” She smiled, and the
maids could she there’s a big blush in her cheeks.
“Hn.” He
answered, paying his attention to the long silky hair of hers.
//Flashback//
He turned back his head in a single swift move as
he heard the bathroom door slammed roughly.
“Duo?”
“Uh-huh.”
There’s a voice coming from the bathroom.
“How’s the mission?”
“Don’t worry.
I could handle it.”
Silence.
Heero could feel something’s wrong with his partner but he couldn’t find
out exactly what it was.
“Duo, are you okay? Are you hurt or
something?” He walked towards the
bathroom door, tried to handle the knob.
“I’m okay, just don’t come here for a minute,
‘kay?”
Heero frowned.
There must be something bad happened to him. He pushed the door hard and forced it open, and he could see Duo,
frowning back to him with a very grumpy face.
“I said don’t come here.” He said. His voice sounded disappointed.
“What happened?”
He asked worriedly.
“Hmmph,” he snorted. “Heero, my hair is a mess…” He
showed the other boy his hair, which was by then covered by dirt and wet by
some, well--stench water.
Heero couldn’t stop the laughter from coming out of
his mouth, he never felt this way before, laugh, so free and relax, before he
notice another cranky face of Duo Maxwell.
“You think it’s funny, dont’cha?” He glared over to the Perfect Soldier.
“I’m sorry, Duo. But it’s just a hair. You just
need to wash it.” He still chuckled.
“That’s exactly what I’m going to do, now would you
mind stepping out of here?”
“Okay, I’m sorry.”
He’s still smiling but rewarded with another slam in the door.
‘He’s really mad’ he thought ‘I’d better think of
something to fix it…’
After one straight hour in the bathroom and almost half
an hour using the hair dryer the longhaired boy finally came out with a very
brand new face, his cheeks were red again and he was smiling from ear to ear.
But when he saw Heero, his face’s back to the old grumpy face.
“You still mad aren’t you?” Heero asked carefully.
“Nope.” He
answered without seeing the other boy’s face.
“Liar.”
“…”
“Here, let me comb your hair.”
“You’re kidding right?” Duo snapped back to face him, eyes widened with surprise.
“Nope, come here.
I want to comb your hair.” Heero
was holding a comb. Duo could sense
that he’s really serious about it. He
couldn’t stop a sudden smile, which crossed his lips.
“O.. Okay..”
He giggled and jumped to the bed near Heero.
Heero smiled and started combing the long chestnut
hair. His hair was soft and
sweet-scented, and Heero was way too familiar with the fragrance that brought
him to paradise. Slowly he felt Duo’s
head fall on his shoulder, his beautiful violet eyes closed and all his muscles
started to loosen up.
“Duo, are you sleeping?”
“Ummm…?” His voice sounded more like a mumble. Heero sighed, he knew he had had a hard
mission and it’s so normal if he felt really tired. He carried the boy to his own bed and let him rest. Heero never finished combing Duo’s hair but
he’s happy enough watching Duo’s sleeping face all night.

A smile rose
in his lips, he didn’t even realize it.
Relena turned to face him and smile.
“Heero?
What’s so funny?” She asked suddenly,
straightening her collar helped by her two maids.
“What?”
“You’re
smiling.” She said.
His
expression turned to a stunned face. “Really? Uh…”
She raised
an eyebrow, looked dazedly to the former Wing pilot. “What are you thinking?”
“Umh,
nothing. Let’s go to the conference room,
I don’t want you to be late.” He opened
the door for her and let her through.
His voice sounded husky as he answered.
Relena nodded and awkwardly waited for him to walk beside her.
“So, I hear
you’re going to join the preventer after finishing your job with me.”
“Aa…” He
slowed his steps so he could walks alongside with the girl.
“Sally was
so excited that you’re joining, she said you’re the best agent preventer could
have.” She smiled.
Heero thought
for a second “That’s the only life I know.”
She frowned
“What do you mean?”
“To receive
mission. My life’s filled with mission
and nothing else.”
“You have
your friends, right?”
“My friends?
Of course…” His gaze was somewhere out there.
“But now they are all got separate ways.”
“Oh so I’ve
heard. I heard Duo Maxwell’s back to
L2, Trowa Barton’s back to the circus, Quatre with his business, but Wufei is
still here in the preventer.”
“Hn. Wufei is really stuck to his job.”
“Yes, he
is. Sally complains a lot about his
over-seriousness,” she chuckled “But despite all that, they are a very good
partner.”
“Yes, they
are.”
//Flashback//
“Please remind me who’s stupid idea was it to made
us partners?” Duo frowned, looking at
the deadly looking Wing pilot. He put some
antiseptic solution on his bruises that he had after blowing off one of OZ
headquarters.
“Would you shut up.” Heero glared while bandaging his own bruises.
“You who came up with the idea to set the bomb in five minutes and now
you’re telling me to shut up. Do you
know we could’ve end up dead back there?”
Duo frowned and lay down to the bed.
“It sounds like a good idea that time.” Heero
sighed and finished his effort to band his other hand.
“You just never admitted don’tcha ?!” Duo shook his head and then raised his
blanket. “I’m going to sleep.”
Heero rose on his feet and walks towards the bed,
“move over.”
“Huh?!” Duo
blinked in confuse, and then “I’m
sorry, Hee-chan. I’m too sore, I don’t think I can do *that* right now…”
“Hentai!” He raised the blanket and rolled to Duo’s
side “This is the only bed in the safe house.”
“Oh you’re right.”
He giggled and then snuggled to Heero’s chest. The Perfect Soldier scooped the braided boy in his arms. He sighed and let all his muscles loosen,
holding Duo has always been his favorite thing to do. The boy was awfully slender and warm. In the other hand, Duo always loved to be inside Heero’s embrace,
to hear the sound of his heartbeat.
They knew no matter how awful the mission bring
them; it was always end up fine as long as they’re together. They were indeed perfect partners.

“Heero, good
that I found you here.” Sally Poe’s
voice breaking the silence of the balcony.
Heero glanced back to her and nodded.
“What’s the
matter?” He asked. Wufei came from her behind with Relena.
“Ah,
Yuy. We’ve got good news for you.”
“Yes?”
“We’ve found
someone to be Relena Peacecraft’s bodyguard, you can join the preventer any
time soon.” Sally smiled to him. “He’s waiting
outside if you wanted to give him some instruction.”
Heero nodded.
“Sure, when he could start?”
“Sooner the
better, we need you in the preventer.”
Wufei nodded and turned to look at a restless Relena. “Do you have
something to say?”
Relena shook
her head. “If it’s already decided, I couldn’t say anything. Do I?”
It’s so
obvious, the disappointment in her eyes.
Sally smiled to her and nodded. “Don’t worry, Relena-sama. If you don’t
like your new bodyguard you could always tell me and we’ll find you somebody
else.”
She nodded,
but her eyes betrayed her. Of course,
she would never like her new bodyguard. Cause all she wanted was Heero.
“And now,
Yuy. We’re thinking to set you a
partner.” Wufei suddenly said.
“I don’t
need any partner, I could work alone.”
Heero said coldly.
“We know
that, but still it’s better if you have someone to cover your back.” Wufei insisted. His dark eyes were straightly to his former pilot comrade.
“So,
Heero?” Sally had a slight smile on her
face. “We’re thinking to ask you to pick up your new partner yourself.”
“Why?” Heero frowned, not believing the mischievous
smile playing in the woman’s lips.
“Because you
know him most, and certainly he could never refuse you.”
Wufei
snorted, “Maybe it’s not a good idea anyway, onna. I mean, I never really liked
him…”
Heero had
another frown in his forehead. “Who is this person you’re talking about?”
“Well…” Sally grinned, “we’re actually talking about
Duo Maxwell.”
//Flashback//
“Say it.”
He blinked, “Huh?!”
“Say it.” Heero
looked down to his lover who’s wrapped safely in his arms.
A wicked smile broke across Duo’s face. “You didn’t
say the magic word..”
Heero snorted and leaned to kiss the boy hard on
the lips. “Heero, I said the magic word, not the action.” He chuckled.
“Duo…”
“I love you, Heero Yuy. Don’t ever doubt that.” He
said solemnly.
Heero’s head tilted, he looks at him and gulped.
“Duo, you know I *care* for you..”
Duo sighed, that’s not exactly the words he was
hoping as a reply from Heero, but he nodded instead. “Yes, I know.”
//End
flashback//
He didn’t
remember what happened after the little meeting in the balcony, the next thing
he knew he’s riding a shuttle straight to L2 to ask Duo joining the preventer,
to become his partner again.
It’s been a week after he left Heero. And Heero had to admit that he somehow missed the braided boy, not just his warmth in his arms, or his kisses in his lips, but more like his presence in his life. He even missed that evil grin he had or his non-stop chatter. And he realized it was more than a request to join the preventer could ever bring him back to his life. It was those three words he been longing to hear from his mouth. Heero didn’t know if he could say it right now, but he’d try. Because he did feel the emotions inside.
He didn’t
know what love is all about, he had never fallen in love before in his
life. But he knew he couldn’t live
without Duo, he experienced it the last week.
And if those feelings were not caused by love, he didn’t know what it was…
“Here is
your stop, Sir.” The Taxi driver
cheered him, stopping in front of a big salvage yard.
“Thank
you.” Heero answered without even
looking at him, eyes looking for a figure that he missed so badly. “Keep the
change.”
“Thanks.” And the taxi left him all alone there.
He walked to
the yard, didn’t know what else to do. How could I ever found him in this
salvage mess anyway? He thought, eyes trying to catch any living things he
could spot.
Finally he
saw it. Long braid snaking behind the
slender boy body, while the owner humming some new pop song and sorting some
salvage materials.
“Duo.” He
almost choked in a whisper when he finally called his name. The boy turned around and almost rose in an
instant when he’s looking at his figure.
“Heero..
What are you doing here?”
“I…”
Duo smiled
cheerfully. “Long time no see, let’s see… a week?!” He chuckled.
Heero set a
soft smile on his face. “A week and sixteen hours to be exact.”
“Huh?!” Duo
blinked and then burst a laugh, “you count that?!”
“Hn.” Heero gulped, all he wanted to do now was
taking the other boy in his embrace and watch that angelic face smiled like it
used to be. “Duo…”
“Heero, what
are you doing here?” Duo repeated, his
heart beating hard, he couldn’t possibly think that Heero came to see him and
he was finally going to say the words to him, but he’d hoped this day to
come. To see Heero again, and maybe…
“I come to…
well, Sally and Wufei asked me to get you to join the preventer, and that we’re
going to be partnered again.” Heero
gasped; he regretted his words of course and couldn’t help swearing to himself
for saying those words first.
Duo sighed,
his eyes filled with disappointment. “Oh…”
“Duo…?”
“Well, I
certainly don’t mind joining the preventer and all, but what about you? I
thought after the war over you would like to.. Uh--stay away from me?” His violet eyes went heavenward.
“Duo…! Of
course I want to be with you, cause uh.. I..”
“Yes?” Duo
looked startled, hoping so badly for Heero to continue.
“I care
about you.”
“Of course
you do, Heero.” Another disappointment
tone in his voice, “I’ll think about that offer, you don’t need to worry. You
could go back now and tell Sally and Wufei…”
“No!! You
have to accept it now, or else…”
Duo turned
his body from him and trailed off, walking away from the ex Wing pilot. He
raised his head a little and tried to catch some air, they both needed it.
“Duo, don’t
run away from me…”
“Oh? I’m
running away from you?” He snapped back, violet eyes filled with anger and
sadness at the same time. “*I* never run from you, Heero Yuy. I always look at you right in the eyes, but
you never give any response for that. Now you even come here to ask me to join
the preventer, to be partner again, and to forget everything between us. Tell me, who’s running away?”
“I never
said that you should forget everything between us. I want you back..!!” He exclaimed.
“Just like
that? A new adventure waiting so you suddenly decided to take your old lover *back
*to give some pleasure in the cold lonely nights?! Well let me tell you
something, Heero. I ain’t coming back
for you, Damn it!!”
Heero grasped
at Duo's wrist, jerking the boy to face him.
“No… I.. I.. I can’t live without you, Duo.” He managed to say the words.
His eyes almost welled up with tears but he soon controlled
himself. “Duo, please come back with
me. I need you.”
Duo stunned, feeling Heero’s arms lift
to embraces him. Soft but strong arms
struck his back in a slow motion. He buried his face to Heero’s chest, bit his
bottom lips and finally he said what he longing to say from the first time he
saw Heero show up in his salvage yard: “Say it, Heero. Say what ever you wanted
to say the first time you’ve decided to come here.”
Heero swallowed hard. He couldn’t say it…
And then he saw it, the beautiful
violet eyes that he was always longing to see looking back at him and he knew
that he’s falling in love so deeply with the boy every time he saw him, never
wanted to let him go.
And finally he found his way back home…
“I love you.” He choked out and shut his mouth afterwards, but he said it. He
finally said it.
Duo’s eyes widened. Did he finally say the words? Oh my God, is
this all real? He lifted his face and look at him confusedly.
“See, I managed to say it, Duo. I did
it.”
“Yes, you do…” He touched the other
boy’s cheek softly. “You know that it’s all what I need? Your love and nothing
else.”
“I’m sorry, Duo. It took me so long to
say the words, and maybe I could never say it again… but I want you to know
that I’ll always feel that way to you.” He trembled; his Prussian blue eyes
look solemnly to the violet eyes.
“No, I *will* make you say it again,
Heero. I love you.” He smiled and kissed him in the lips.
“Me too…”
Duo broke
the kiss and pull away, “I guess I should pack my stuff right now, so I can
join you immediately, partner.” He
winked.
“Yes, you
should. Sally and Wufei are waiting back home.”
“Wufei ha? I
thought he didn’t like me all this time…” He frowned, “you think he might have
missed me?”
The Perfect
Soldier snorted, pulled him back to his embrace and growled in his ear. “Baka.
You’re mine. I’m not sharing you with
anyone.”
Duo laughed
with satisfaction, tilted his head to kissed his lover again. “That’s all I
need, Heero. Your words.”
