IN THE KITCHEN
A Fruits Basket Darefic

AUTHOR'S NOTE:
You can once again thank Koishii for this one. *glomps Koishii* Kind of the same style as His Perfect Gift. Short, to the point, hints of lemon (or are they *shrug*).

"Why does it get harder when it's wet?"

"You're asking me?"

"Hai."

"Ah! Well, it depends on how much you add."

"Sou ka...is this good?

"Hmm...you might want to add just a little more."

"Okay. How about this?"

"AH! Iie! That's too much!"

A pout. "Are you sure?"

"H-hai."

"All right then...how about that?"

"Perfect, Shigure-san. That's perfect."

Yuki and Kyo stared at each other across the kitchen doorway. They not been surprised that Tohru was in the kitchen, but they WERE surprised that Shigure was with her. Fearing the worst, they sat outside to listen. Both wondered now if that had been a good idea. Yuki had paled considerably and Kyo looked ready to pounce into the kitchen.

'What so you think's going on,' Kyo mouthed over to Yuki.

The other boy could only shrug in response. He didn't want to think too hard about it if he could avoid it.

Both boys quieted as more noises came from the kitchen.

"And what about these, Tohru-kun?"

"Ah, we'll add them a little later. There's already a lot to work with."

"You think so?" Shigure sounded awfully proud of that.

"Hai." And Tohru wasn't complaining. "But maybe we can fit in this last little bit."

'Fit in?' Kyo mouthed, shaking his head to rid himself of a mental image.

"Wouldn't that make it harder still?"

'Harder still?' Yuki mouthed, his eyes widening as he sank against the wall.

"Possibly."

"Possibly?"

'Possibly?!?' the boys mouthed to each other, their bodies shaking with anger.

"We'll finish working this, and see what happens," Tohru said.

"See what happens to what?" Yuki and Kyo ask aloud as they moved through the kitchen door to see what was going on. Both boys are stunned into silence at the scene before them.

Shigure stood by the counter next to Tohru at the stove. They were both wearing aprons. Both had smudges of flour and grease on their faces. Both wore the most confused look ever seen.

And they were both fully clothed.

"Nan desu ka?" Shigure asked them, frowning. The looked ready to start a fight. If that were to happen, he at least wanted to know why. He was certain that HE had done nothing wrong.

"Ah! Yuki! Kyo! You're just in time," Tohru said, unfazed by their surprised looks.

"In time for what, Honda-san?"

PING!

"The first batch is done."

Yuki's eyes went wide. "First--?"

"--Batch?" Kyo finished, also surprised.

"Hai," said Shigure happily. "Tohru is helping me bake goodies."

"Goodies?" the boys ask in unison.

"Hai," replied Tohru, pulling a tray of what looked like chocolate fudge from the over. "Shigure was kind enough to help me bake brownies for the school bake sale." She placed the tray on the counter in front of Shigure who sniffed at the chocolate appreciatively.

"This is a special recipe my mother gave me when I was little," she continued. "It's almost like a regular mix, but you have to be careful how much water you add to it. Too little and the batter becomes hard and it won't bake properly. Too much and it becomes to watery to work with."

Yuki placed a hand over his mouth to stifle a chuckle. Everything they'd heard was about baking brownies. He looked at Kyo, the cat's reaction nearly the same as his. When their eyes met, they both broke out into laughter.

"Ara," Shigure said, looking at them curiously. "What's so funny?"

"You in that apron," Kyo replied, unable to admit to the truth.

Shigure looked down at himself and frowned.

Did he really look funny in a light pink apron?
