[How could I just let you walk away]
Heero raises his head to stare into the distance, where the sun is setting.
[Just let you leave without a trace]
Not as far away as he thinks, Relena gazes at the same sun, knowing she'd better stop thinking of him and get back to work.
[While I stand here taking]
Heero remembers the escape from Libra, when he held her and told her, "I will always protect you, Relena."
[Every breath with you]
Relena remembers shaking Heero, cuddling him.
[You're the only one]
"You're the only one I've ever loved, Heero."
[Who really knew me at all]
"You saw the weak side of me. Yet I can't bring myself to kill you, Relena."
[How can you just walk away from me]
Relena recalls the painful memory of an image of Heero walking away without saying goodbye.
[When all I can do is watch you leave]
She recalls further when Heero arrived at a Preventer meeting and avoided her for the whole 2 hours.
['Cause we've shared the laughter and the pain]
Heero thinks of the one fateful time she made him laugh, then the times he saved her.
[And even shared the tears]
She bows her head, trying to hide the tears that spring unbidden in her eyes.
[You're the only one]
Noin watches from a crack in a door. God, Heero, you've broken a quarter of her heart and stole it. Please don't cause her anymore pain.
[Who knew me at all]
"Dammit, Relena. Why did you have to be the understanding one when no one could or would."
[So take a look at me now]
Relena starts writing, then realizes that she can't concentrate.
[Oh, there's just an empty space]
Heero finds the cool wind through the window, a welcome distraction from a certain Peacecraft. Unfortunately, the distraction lasts for only a few moments.
[And there's nothing left here to remind me]
Heero realizes that the only thing Relena gave him was her picture.
[Just a memory of your face]
Heero takes out the picture and stares at it in the fading light.
[Take a look at me now]
Relena looks at the propped-up card on her desk. Tape holds it together where she once ripped it.
['Cause there's just an empty space]
All that was scralwed on the card was "Happy Birthday Relena."
[And you coming back to me is against all odds]
Relena imagines Heero creeping into her room and looking at her for the night, then leaving when the sun tips over the horizon. Knowing it will never happen, she brushes the thought away.
[And that's what I've got to face]
Relena starts to sigh furiously, willing the thought of Heero away.
[I wish I could just make you turn around]
Heero jerks backwards, thinking he heard Relena's voice.
[Turn around and see me cry]
Miliando asks Noin how his sister is faring. Noin looks up sadly and answers,"She cries herself to sleep every night."
[There's so much I need to say to you]
Relena tosses and turns in the bed, her dreams plauged by a certain Japanese pilot.
[So many reasons why]
Through half-shut lips, there comes a "Why, Heero, did you leave me."
[You're the only one]
Miliando prayed, "God, save my sister from further torment."
[Who really knew me at all]
"You knew I was merciful to those who agreed with me. Yet you oppose me, Relena, and survived me. How? Where is my weakness?"
[So take a look at me now]
Relena wakes up, trudges downstairs to breakfast, and smiles drearily. The 2 patrons at the table smile weakly back.
['Cause there's just an empty space]
Heero looks now at the rising sun, not indifferent from the setting yesterday evening. Relena, where are you? Are you thinking of me?
[And there's nothing left here to remind me]
Alone in her office, Relena bowed her head. Heero, where are you? Do you know these tears are because of you?
[Just a memory of your face]
No picture or anything, Heero. Just a fact that I loved you. And I still love you.
[Take a look at me now]
Heero gets up, and leaves the builing, obviously headed toward his work.
['Cause there's just an empty space]
He stops.
[But to wait for you is]
"I have to go to the store first, Heero."
[All I can do]
After purchasing several goods, he walks to his apartment. But he stares wistfully at a spire in the downsection of Tokyo.
[And that's what I've got to face]
"What the--why am I staring at Relena's work place?"
[Take a good look at me now]
Relena's secretary looks in surprise at a green tank top clad boy who just walked in.
"I need to see Relena."
['Cause I'll still be standing here]
"Who should I say called?"
"Heero Yuy."
[And you coming back to me is against all odds]
"There will only be one Heero Yuy and he will never be you", the secretary retorted back.
[That's a chance I have to take]
A bell rings, signaling it was time for lunch. Relena packs up and hurries outside. She stops.
[Take a look at me now]
Heero catches her eye, realizes that it's her and stares her square in the face.
He bows.
"May I take you out to lunch, Mrs. Darlian?"

Comments: Um, I'll leave the ending up to you. The romantic person would obviously dream up that Heero and Relena get together. The negative person would dream up that Heero told her that he doesn't love her. Well, you make up the ending. I'm not saying anymore.
