SPOILERS: Takes place after 'Departure'.
Liz loses her balance and falls off the roof.
MAX: (yelling)LIZ? NOOOO!
Fortunately, there is a clothesline hung between the two buildings. Liz reaches out and grabs hold of it, suspending herself in place.
Max breathes a sigh of relief, but then notices the expression on Liz�s face as she looks down. She grabs hold of the clothesline with both hands, but is too groggy to pull herself to safety.
MAX: (muttering)Oh my god, she�s drunk.
Maria looks up at Liz with a look of panic.
MARIA: LIZ! Hang on!
ALEX: Don�t let go.
Maria walks right through Alex to talk to Michael.
MARIA: We�ve got to get her down before she falls. Somebody call the police. (whispering)If she falls, one of you can heal her, right?
MICHAEL: Not with this many people around.
Just then, without hesitation, Max heads towards the fire escape.
Max gets to the fire escape at the building the opposite side of where Liz climbed up and starts to climb up.
MAX: (muttering) Hang on, Liz. Just a bit longer.
He reaches the top of the roof and cries out�
MAX: (yelling)LIZ? Are you okay?
Cut to Liz, hanging on�
LIZ: M-m-max? I�m okay!
She looks down again, and gets a terrified expression.
LIZ: For now!
Cut back to Max.
MAX: Just hang on�I�m coming for you.
He walks over to the clothesline and sees her hanging on.
MAX: Just inch over towards me�I�ll pull you up.
Liz nods her head, she starts to move, but then starts to get dizzy again.
MAX: Just hang on�I�ll�
The sudden rush of adrenaline caused by his fear of Liz falling causes his head to hurt a little�then to pound.
MAX: �I�ll�I�ll�
�then it feels as if his brain is being torn apart. He screams�
MAX: (screaming)AGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!
LIZ: MAX!!!
Then he falls. Still in pain, he grabs the clothesline with only one hand, a few feet away from Liz.
Back on the ground, the others watch in horror.
MICHAEL: What the devil�s going on?
ALEX: Somebody better do something fast, or else I�m going to have a lot more people to talk to.
Back above, Max�s head continues to pound.
Then, he remembers�
A few weeks ago, at the observatory.
TESS: Just relax, ok?
Tess moves in to kiss him, but Max stops her.
MAX: What if she�s right?
Tess looks confused.
TESS: What if who�s right?
MAX: Liz. What if Alex�s death wasn�t an accident?
Max stands up.
TESS: That�s crazy. We didn�t have anything to do with it. She�s just in mourning, she�s grasping at straws.
MAX: Don�t you think it�s possible? There�s more aliens on this planet than just us. The skins, the duplicates�for all we know, K�Var could be here.
Tess stands up to face him.
TESS: She didn�t blame the skins, or the duplicates, or K�Var, Max. She blamed us.
MAX: She�d never do that. I know her too well. If Liz thinks something�s wrong, then something just might be wrong. She�s never been wrong before.
TESS: She�s just as bad as all the rest on this planet. They don�t trust us, they�re just afraid we�ll hurt them. She�s not one of us, Zan. Can�t you�
Max freezes.
MAX: What did you call me?
Tess doesn�t answer.
MAX: After all this time, I thought you realized it. I�m not the person you knew.
TESS: But you can be.
MAX: I only wish that were true. It would probably be a lot easier than being Max Evans.
He pauses.
MAX: We have to go after her.
TESS: She�s not one of us, Max�she�s a human. She�s an enemy�
MAX: (insistent)No she�s not.
TESS: She�s a scientist, and you�re just the experiment. She doesn�t care for�
MAX: (yelling)I love her!
Tess freezes.
MAX: (quietly)I love her, and I have to go after her.
Max turns around and starts to leave.
TESS: Max? MAX!
Tess begins to concentrate.
Suddenly, Max stops in his tracks. His head begins to hurt.
MAX: What are you�?
TESS: I didn�t want to do this�but you don�t leave me a choice.
Max falls to the ground, still clutching his head.
TESS: I didn�t mean to hurt Alex�he just wasn�t strong enough. Not like you.
MAX: (gasping)You�you�?
TESS: It only hurts if you fight it. It would be so much easier if you would have just forgot about her. I tried to make you, but your mind�s too strong. There�s one way that I won�t have to.
Max collapses.
TESS: When those scientists put us in these bodies, they did something to us. They made it so we can�t breed together. They wanted us to mate with humans�it�s sickening. But you won�t remember that little fact, will you?
Then, Max lost consciousness.
Suddenly, Max regains control of himself. He grabs hold of the clothesline with his other hand.
MAX: (to himself)It wore off. The mind warp�it wore off.
Then, he feels the cord start to weaken. He uses his powers to increase the density of it. Making it hold for a little while longer.
LIZ: MAX?
MAX: I�m okay�I�m okay�just hang on.
Max inches towards him.
Liz keeps slipping in and out of consciousness.
LIZ: No, stay away, you have to stay away from me.
MAX: You�re hallucinating�just hang on.
LIZ: If you don�t stay away�world�s gonna end�
Max freezes.
LIZ: Told me so when came from future�gotta stay away from me�or world ends�gotta stay away� Can�t stay away from you. Love you too much.
With newfound determination, Max moves closer and closer to her. Hand over hand, until he�s right next to her.
He puts one hand over hers.
MAX: Put your arms around my neck.
Liz does as he says.
MAX: Now hang on.
Slowly, Max carries her on his back as he moves towards the building. Finally, they reach the end, where he pulls the both of them up.
Max looks at the now unconscious Liz, and then at his own hands. They are bleeding from rope burn. He quickly uses his powers to return the rope to its original state, and then to heal his hands partially.
Cut to the ground. Max carries Liz down the fire escape, meeting the crowd bellow. Sean walks over to him.
SEAN: Is she all right? I�
Max grits his teeth and stares at Sean with an angry look. He places Liz down near Maria, and then turns to Sean.
He grabs Sean by the collar with one hand.
MAX: (in a low, angry voice)She could have been killed today. I don�t know who you are, or what you�re capable of, but if you EVER try anything else like this again, I swear by all I hold dear, that I will make you regret it!
He lets Sean go, and then picks up Liz with both arms.
And then he walks away, with Michael, Maria, Kyle, Isabel, and Alex following him.
