PG-13. Its real emotional, though.SUMMARY:
Takes place after Ch-ch-changes. Liz attempts to starts a new life in Vermont. When a tragedy strikes, one that her newfound powers cant do a thing about, she learns that theres a large difference between being normal and being human.AUTHORS NOTE:
This idea came to me while rewatching Leaving Normal. I thought back to an old Superman issue by Dan Jurgans entitled Face To Face With Yesterday, so its partially based on that story. My name is Liz Parker, and I'm an alien. But not really.
I was born on Earth. I have a human body. But ever since Max Evans healed me, I've felt the farthest thing from 'human' as possible. Even before these powers started emerging, I haven't felt 'normal 'at all in a long time.
Then again, what's so great about normal in the first place?
That's what Max asked me, a lifetime ago. He doesn't remember. At least, I don't think he does. Right now, I'm not too sure about the answer.
What's so great about being normal? Nothing.
What's so great about being human? Everything.
What's the difference? I wish I knew.

Liz Parker sat in her hospital bed, somewhere in Vermont. The last 24 hoursshe wished she could forget what had happened. Maybe if she would have taken that drink, she would have. Isnt that what alcohol was supposed to do to her now? Make her forget everything than happened while
She closed her eyes tightly and wrapped her arms around herself. How could this have happened? It was as if, in a split second, a dream had turned into a nightmare. She wished she could just go back and undo everything.
She started to cry.
Liz? the nurse asked her as she walked into her room. Is everything all right?
Liz collected herself, attempting to hide her tears from the nurse.
Yeah, Im fine, she lied. Howhow is she?
The nurse looked down sadly.
Not good, she admitted. Her parents are on their way. In case the worst happens. You should be able to go back to the school tomorrow. We just need to keep you here for observation another day.
Ok, Liz responded quietly. I dont mind.
The nurse left, leaving Liz alone with her thoughts.
She raised her right hand, and aimed it towards the light switch. A small glow appeared in the center of her palm, and the lights went out.
Now in perpetual darkness, Liz stared at her hand in disgust.
All this power? she whispered. and I couldnt do a single thing.
Liz laid back against the bed, and suddenly felt a chill. The hospital gown she wore wasnt very warm, so she noticed it instantly.
She looked over at the window, which she noticed was now open. It wouldnt have made a difference though. She knew he was inside. She sensed him.
Then she heard his footsteps. The sound of his breathing. The beating of his heart as he saw her.
How did you know? she asked the darkness. You got here so fast.
A figure stepped out of the darkness. Dressed in jeans and a blue t-shirt, covered by a black leather jacket. His hair was freshly cut, and his eyes filled with compassion. He looked just like he did on that dayso many years ago.
You called, I came, Max Evans told her, as he knelt down beside her bed. Its what I do.
