My son Michael was born June 8 1981 and passed away January 15 1982 due to complications after heart surgery. Just as with his brother, William, he has remained in my heart with his precious memories though few they may be, always.

Michael was born with a VSD (heart murmur) which was the size of a nickel. The doctor told us Michael was unable to feed normally due to pressure on his heart and in turn caused weight loss and the inability to gain weight so he would have to have heart surgery to close the hole in between the chambers of his heart in order to survive. He told us that the percentage of my baby not surviving the surgery was 2% and the odds of him surviving was 98%.
Michael did survive the surgery and went immediately into the children's intensive care unit. I was able to go in and see him every couple of hours and he was doing great for what he had just gone through. The daytime nurse was kind and all smiles as she talked about how good Michael was doing.
I remember feeling relieved it was over and that my baby was ok. I remember thinking about the things he would be able to do as he grew up and imagining it just as if a video was playing in my mind, unaware of what was about to happen a few short hours ahead.
During the night ,my precious child took a turn for the worst. (what the doctor called it)The tube going into him for the drainage clogged and then his lungs collapsed and his heart stopped. Those are the complications my baby didn't survive....
