UPDATE - II

For those who are interested, the final bound pix' of this last
weekend's project, the "Comic Book Styled Autograph Book," are at
the photos section.

Instead of the velo, I went on ahead and did the spiral binding. Of
course, I wanted a "silver" spiral but only had "white" in stock,
so, I took a white one and spray painted it "silver." It looks
better than the white, but who knows how long it'll be before that
silver wears off!!! LOL!!!

At any rate, both front and back covers are pictured.

Hope everyone's having a great day!

Subject:  Weekend Project - Comic Book Styled Autograph Book

As summertime is fast approaching, many people begin to attend concerts, while others attend concerts throughout the year. So, we thought it fitting to put together a series of craft ideas that will take you from now, into the summer, where you can feature your Hall & Oates photos/names/initials, in a variety of ways, that would be suitable, as a fan, for you to use while possibly attending one of their concerts.

The Weekend Project for today is, a "Comic Book Styled Autograph Book"

At any rate, in order to make this a seemingly fun project for concert goers, I thought that we would incorporate it into a project where you could customize it with a Hall & Oates/Music theme.

Materials:

Paper
Card Stock
Scissors
Your Favorite Photos of Hall & Oates
Other Photos of your choice

Instructions:

Find pre-printed templates at:

http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/books/comicbook/

You can also reduce these pages to suit the size you need. For those of you who are artists, you can probably come up with some pretty cool designs for your book! It's recommended that you have at least 25 pages in your book, plenty for autographs, and, it is also recommended that you spiral bind them. If you don't have a binder, you can take your finished project to your local copy place and have them spiral bind it for you. The cost for that can average from $2.50 per book up to $5.00, depending upon your location. If you have it bound at a copy place or you bind it yourself, it is also recommended that you cut down a clear cover sheet to place on top of the cover, in order to protect your cover's artwork.

A couple of our subsidiaries publish and retail a line of autograph books. For a sample of what one, with customized pages looks like, go to:

or,

Of course, we try to encourage people to have "one" separate autograph book for "each" event they attend, simply because you meet different people sometimes, and you're in a different place, different photo op's, etc. For posterity's sake, it's like a mini-
journal, marking the event you've attended!

Our books are 5x7-1/2 inches and we've found that to be a good size as it's not too cumbersome.

A "still photo ad" from the Cat House Caf's (TM) autograph book can be viewed in the Weekend Project Photos section.

Should you decide to "bind" your own book, following is a "url" for "making a book," which has a simple binding technique:

If you like, for more ideas and other book binding techniques, you can also check out a variety of books on "Handmade Books/Bookmaking," at your local library.

UPDATE - I

My "Comic Book Styled Autograph Book" is semi-finished....if there's
such a word! LOL!!!!

I love to make all kinds of handmade books, so, this project was
definitely something I enjoyed.

For the cover, I used a deep purple cover and one of my favorite
photos of Hall & Oates. For the inside of the book, I chose to use
the "Chaucer" font. The book is a total of 25 printed pages and
prior to binding, I'm adding an additional 10 blank pages for
autographs, and a few other niceties, I.e., cut to size plastic
photo sheets for pix' or trading cards, and an envelope that can
hold souvenirs.

I haven't finished this book, as of yet, simply due to the fact
that, I haven't quite decided what type of binding to do, I.e.,
spiral, velo, hand stitched, etc.

It's raining here now, so, even if I decide tonight, I won't be
posting the finalized pix until tomorrow. So, for now, I've loaded
the pix of the book, prior to binding and it can be found at the
photos section, as I won't put it in the "Group Weekend Project,"
file until tomorrow.

Overall concetrated effort, prior to binding, took around 20
minutes, for cutting, and 45 minutes for customizing the pages, for
a total of 1 hr and 5 mins.

Hope everyone who took part in this project, enjoys their books.

If you haven't tried this project, it's not too late!

Hope everyone's having a great evening! I'm off the computer asap
and unplugging my entire computer system and internet
line...yikes!!!! I panic when rain and storms hit!!!! LOL!!!!
