| From: "Becky Escamilla" <administrationoffice@t...> Date: Fri Jan 23, 2004 4:52 pm Subject: Weekend Project - Book Cover As summertime is fast approaching, many people begin to attend concerts, while others attend concerts throughout the year. So, we thought it fitting to put together a series of craft ideas that will take you from now, into the summer, where you can feature your Hall & Oates photos/names/initials, in a variety of ways, that would be suitable, as a fan, for you to use while possibly attending one of their concerts. The Weekend Project for today is, a "Book Cover!" They're easy, and you can cover a variety of journals, diaries, and/or autograph books, that you can take with you anywhere, including concerts. Wouldn't it be exciting to get an autograph in your book, which is covered with pix' of Hall & Oates!!! That'd be cool! At any rate, as always, you're welcome to improvise, as we sure will! For a "sample" pix of a "Book Cover," go to the "photos" section where you'll see samples of other projects too. |
| Initially, we got the idea for this project from, "http://nd.essortment.com/howtomakebook_rkef.htm". Of course, as usual, we improvised, and Maria completed her Journal a few days prior and she adhered photos to an already pre-covered Journal, which was purchased at the local "Big Lots" store for .99 cents. I got my Journal finished over the weekend. When it came to my "Book Cover," I decided to cover it with decorative tissue paper first. So, I took "Mod Podge," and coated the front cover with it; then, I took the decorative tissue paper and pasted it to the cover; then, I proceeded to the spine of the book, and the back cover and repeated the process, leaving excess paper as an overhang so that I could fold it over and into the inside of the covers. After that, I repeated the process with a second sheet of tissue paper, as the original journal was a bright yellow with purple leaves on it, and a second coat of paper and "mod podge," was necessary. I then took photo corners and pasted them to the front cover, along with Daryl Hall's pix. I opted to use photo corners so that I could change out the photos if I wanted to, or place another photo over the one, that's there. I finished off the journal across the top and spine, with a strand of ribbon affixed to mini-strands of beads. Of course, in case you haven't noticed, I love bright colors and beads, and am trying to ensure that my weekend projects are coordinated to match. Overall, concentrated effort took about 20 minutes to include proper drying time for the "Mod Podge." |
