| In the summer of 1989 on the campus of Florida State University, a group of friends were formed through a summer enrichment program for minorities at the institution. They formed during the fall semester and found that they were a group of men who focused on grades, participated in campus and community activities, and thusly formed strong bonds with one another. The twelve gentlemen made a proposition to create an organization that was not a fraternity and much more inclusive for its members - in an effort to better the community. Thus, November 27, 1989, Progressive Black Men was officially established. |
