| So Why Crunch? | ||||||
| People have asked, Why Crunch? So, they are entitled to an answer. I worked for the Williamsport Ambulance Service Coop. for 15 months as a per diem EMT, before I moved to Florida. Just as I gave my 4 weeks notice that I was moving down to Cape Canaveral, I had a routine transfer that very quickly went into an emergency situation, all the while we had a mass casualty incident involving a glue factory and a middle school full of kids. I was a little flustered after that day. My truck died on me, because it doesn't charge right, as we loaded the patient. No one could bring me another ambulance, because of the mass casualty incident going on. We got ourselves jumpstarted and as we went back to Williamsport, that's when our routine transfer turned into an emergency situation. My medic simply said to me, "Lights and Sirens." A day later, I redid my driver's training, a yearly scheduled thing, and a day after I finished the training, I crashed a van into a parked car, as I tried to back my vehicle out of an overcrowed parking lot. The night dispatcher noticed that I was on the 'early' crew the next morning, and so was a guy named Earl. Earl loved to eat. The dispatcher heard about my accident and said Crunch and Munch were the early crew. It stuck until I left 3 weeks later. |
