Sybella tells us that Panos has achieved a fantastic promotion, to Damascus, where he'll head the UNRWA operation. So we fly out at the end of June to spend 10 days with them in Rwanda before bringing the children back to Europe.

We start out from Northleach, taking Swanbrook up to London, where we stay with Giles and Caroline

So lovely to be with them again, even in such an alien environment!

Alice has brought shawls for Rose and Hasina.

Then the great thrill starts- we go to Lake Kivu en route to the volcanoes. While we're there, Christopher becomes an ardent fan of the World Cup.

Then we climb Mont Visoke! Altitude nearly defeats me, but we make it, with Michel-Henri's marvellous resourcefulness coming to our aid.

We're staying in the middle of these wonderful volcanoes.

But then there's the greatest excitement of all - Alice calls it the most wonderful hour of her life! We visit the Sabyinyo group of gorillas, with Gahundo the biggest silverback in Rwanda calling the shots.

A few more shots, Christopher at his most endearing, Sybella off to work - with sad farewells from Rose and Hasina at the end.

And here we are, waiting at Nairobi airport to fly back to England.
