A Munro Family in New Zealand

My great grandfather, Lauchlan Munro, was the son of Alexander Munro and Barbara McLean. He was one of seven children, being born in Sutherlandshire, Scotland on the 7th January 1864.

His sisters and Brothers were...

Catherine Munro born 1855
Charles Munro born 1856
Janet Munro born 1857
Margaret Munro born 1861
Lauchlan Munro born 1864
Hugh Munro born 1866
Alexander Munro born 1872

Lauchlan was a crewman onboard a ship carring settlers to New Zealand in about 1881. He jumped ship at the Port of Bluff that year. Finding work at Fortrose, working for a German farmer, the same year. But once the farmer found that Lauchlan had jumped ship, refused to pay him. Lauchlan's journey from Southland to Hawkes Bay is unknown, but he ended up working for the Railways as a Plate Layer in the Hawkes Bay. Where he married Catherine McDonald in 1897, having three children.
It is thought that Lauchlan jumped ship enroute to find an older brother or sister, possibably Catherine or Charles, either of whom had arrived in New Zealand earlier than 1881.
If anyone knows any thing about a Munro of his family who did arrive in New Zealand, please e-mail me...
