The Metcalf Funny Farm
October 24, 2005
How's this for a cheery background?   After the gloomy weather this weekend, I figured a little brightness was in order.  Although, Saturday was not too shabby I must say.

Before I get into anything else - thank you to my lovely sister-in-law Kathy.  I got the Hawaiian quilting patterns just fine Kath, and I'm looking forward to finding a project to use them in.  Perhaps SOMEONE will send me some authentic hawaiian material to use also?!?!?!?  ;-)  wink, wink. xoxoxoxoxo But seriously, thank you.  It is very sweet of you to think of me.

This weekend we had fun with friends.  Taylor went to stay with her pal Megan and they went to the Hayward Haunted House. It was a "scream"!  (Get it?)  A production company is hired to come in and set up the whole thing in one of the hockey arenas in town, but it is run by volunteers.  Many locals have a great time playing the parts and it's an incredibly well done "scare".  That's why I won't go.  That's right - yours truly is a big chicken.  Someday if you ever have a chance to talk to my big brother Eric, he can tell you why.  Remember the clown mask Eric??????  hmpf.  Anyhow, Tay had a great time doing that, doing makeup, talking about boys until midnight and all that other good slumber party stuff.  Nick had an absolute blast having 2 of his friends over.  They stayed up until 2 am!  Trampolining, tag football, movies, video games and apparently pillow fights.  I came downstairs in the morning to find the vacuum cleaner in the middle of the floor, and popcorn kernels strewn all over the outer part of the floor.  Sigh.  At least they tried to clean it up. Although I'm a little nervous that neither Michael nor I heard the vacuum cleaner going in the middle of the night!
:-O

Mike and Matt came to help Michael with a side job and sweet Mike decided to bring Drake, his black lab.  That dang dog barked and whined all night long!  Michael and I were up at 3 am.  Grrr... Of course Mike didn't hear him and slept quite.  Double Hmpf!

But we all spent Saturday and Sunday out at our friends place - the Metcalf's.  They are wonderful people who have a beautiful hobby farm.  The guys worked on building Liz's poultry barn, and I was inside visiting and quilting with Lizzie.  Taylor was in her absolute glory riding "Leah" all weekend.  She's a very gentle (and old) horse that Ed let her have complete control of.  She was able to saddle and unsaddle her all alone, brush her down, feed her, ride the trails and just have a great time.  In fact, that's all we've heard about it - how much she loves Leah.  Leah, Leah, Leah.  Even in the car this morning.  Yikes. And Nick just idolizes Ross and Tom, Liz and Ed's boys.  When not in the house playing air hockey, they were "scrimmaging" outside with the football.  Even in icky weather.  I suppose a good Mom would have made them come in; now Nick is coughing and has a running nose.   Plus, they are all trying to hoard in on my time with Liz whenever I go to visit her!  Not gonna happen.  Moms get to have fun with their friends too.

But we laughed a lot, talked a lot and got a lot done; we cheered for the Packers, booed for the Vikings, and cried for the loss.  And no matter what the outcome, we love our Pack and are all wearing our Green and Gold proudly today.  We looked at it as a wonderful chance to show all the creepy Viking fans (sorry Donna) that us Packer fans have class.  We'll get 'em in Lambeau.  (I hope)

So that was our weekend in a nutshell.  Pics are on the photo page - Enjoy!  (I also snuck some more pics in of our visit with my brother and sister before the sports page.)  This weekend we have the Joe & Beth Stroede family coming up which is ALWAYS a great time.  A double bonus will be Mikey and Mike coming up on Wednesday.  To give Kendie a weekend alone, Mike is coming up for the T-Zone hunt and bringing Mikey with him.  I am taking Thursday and Friday off to watch him and to finally finish up my fall cleaning that I've been putting of.  The spiders are overcoming the downstairs but Liz says it looks very Halloweenish.  Is she a great friend of what?  Thanks Liz.  Think I can get away with a "Creepy Christmas" theme?

And that's the recent happenings from the sunny shores of Ojibwa Heights.  We think of you all often and love you all so much.  So in honor of the poor Mexican people that got hit with the hurricane - ADIOS AMIGOS.
