A few years ago I would have thought you crazy
I rather had spent my time at home just being lazy
Yet, you decided to become a living book
So on we walked through each cemetery to which we were took.
You had to find one family member, then another
A past uncle, a grandparent's sister or brother.
I've lost count of the many places
Yet you can re-count them all-even have their old photographs,
so you know their faces.
Everyone knows you're the living historian of the family.
Your newest found information is cataloged with every paper in the county.
It doesn't take much to get you going on the family tree.
You can trace it back further than the human eye can see.
From your lessons, I gained ribbons, trophies, and great pride.
A mother who was a walking family directory at my side.
Yet, this I know will forever be TRUE:
There will NEVER be a great mother like YOU!
