BROOME HISTORY
Family tree: more information
According to the family tradition, the Broom family is of British, possibly Scottish origin. The tradition is tied to an old ring, which still is in the belonging of the family and which once should have belonged to the family father Thomas Broome. The ring has a black and white coat of arms with three broome flowers. What is known is that the family origins from the chemist Thomas Broome. From a note dated 1656 in "Villands hrads dombok" you can read that Thomas Broome moved into Skne in south Sweden in the year of 1642. You can also read that he got married with Johanna Danielsdotter Lang the 2nd of January 1648 in the town of Kristianstad and that Thomas Broome died in the year of 1679 at his farm "Snckestad" in Vnga Socken. It is not known where from Thomas Broome originated. However there are notes from the early 18th century written by Thomas's son-in-law Peter Schaeij which says that Thomas Broome was born Englishman. There are also facts in connection to an election in Helsingborg during the same period of time, where Thomas's son Jonas was accused of being son of a Scotsman. It is also not known why Thomas should have decided to move from Great Britain to Sweden, but he lived at the farm "Snckestad" which had once belonged to Henrik Ramel who was well known for his long journeys abroad. It might have been Ramel who made Thomas Broome to make the move to Sweden. The family name was changed to Broom during the 1740's and it seams to have been Richardus and Jonas Broom who first decided to change their names.
