| Topics and Discussion: What medical changes can you expect during the different stages of the disease? Evaluate the home health care needs for each stage. Talk openly about what the caregiver can and cannot be responsible for. Decide on a primary doctor, social worker, home health care company and talk to them about decisions your family has made. Identify who in the family understands the medical world and can help as a liaison to guide the caregiver through painful or confusing issues. Decide how the family will make major health decisions. What are advanced directives and who needs them. What will Medicare pay for? What can you expect from your private insurance? What should the caregiver look for regarding their health issues? What are new pharmaceudical and herbal interventions. Why do people with Alz. seem to choke more than regular people? How can you prevent auxilliary health problems or predatory infections since their immune system is down? |
