| "Believe in the Lord Jesus and you and your family will be saved" (Acts 16:31) |
| Jesus said, "For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see..." (John 9:39) You've been standing there for a long time, thinking of many things, while waiting for your parents to end their discourse. Your parents are disciplining you but their words goes into one of your ears and out on the other. Familiar scene? Hmmm... As teenagers, we sometimes neglect our parents' discipline, murmuring inside of us for we have heard the "sermon" a thousand and one times already. We may know it or not, but God gave us our parents to guide us and to enlighten us, that we "may see what we do not see". Rejecting parental discipline is like rejecting God's correction. In Hebrew chapter 12, the Bible tells us clearly "it is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?" (verse 7), and again in verse 11 "For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." This Lenten season is a good start for us to admit our flaws and listen to our parents' words of wisdom. Parents are important to us, for without them, we would have not been here. So let us apologize to our parents for the times we disrespected them, for the times we have not listened to them while they were correcting us. Let us also approach God and say sorry to Him that He too may forgive us for the times we did not listen to our parents. Let us ask God for the grace to change our mistakes and to rise from our weaknesses. Let us listen to our parents for they are God's light for us that we may see the areas of our lives that needs changing. Lord, I repent of the times I did not heed my parents correction. I pray that You please help me change, especially this season of Lent, that I may be a pleasing creation in Your sight. In Jesus' name. Amen. |
