| Dir en grey burst onto the Japanese music scene in 1997, boasting a sound that was strange, energetic, and dark. In less than a year, they released their first single (JEALOUS, I'm pretty sure), which hit #37 on the Oricon chart. This was a task unheard of; only one band, X (X Japan), had ever been able to bring such success. After that, the chart-topping singles kept coming. But that's not to say that they've always stayed the same- far from it. They change their music style almost the way they change their costumes. It's still the same general genre (there's no specific genre for DEG), and you know it's still genuinely Dir en grey, although it's not repetitive at all. Today, they have about 18 singles and 6 albums. They still tour, and recently, their Japanese-based Official website was translated into English! Dir en grey supports their fans as much as we support them, even to the point of holding special concerts for fanclub members, and giving away concert tickets to overseas fans! Banzai! |

| Toshiya (Hara Toshimasa): Bassist Birthdate: 03/31/1977 Bloodtype: B Height: 178 cm (about 5' 10") Toshiya seems to be a very vibrant, happy person, with almost a child-like innocence to him. Watch some of the videos, like the one of him riding around on a scooter while everyone else is getting ready! Kawaii sou ne. >D |
| Shinya (Terachi Shinya): Drummer Birthdate: 02/24/1978 Bloodtype: B Height: 170 cm (about 5' 7") Shinya is the youngest and quietest member of Dir en grey, although in some videos, he seems to be doing most of the talking. Perhaps because he has such a nice voice? He also has a small dog, Miyukkoro. Hehe. |
| Kyo (Niimura Tooru): Vocalist Birthdate: 02/16/1975 Bloodtype: B Height: 160 cm (about 5' 3") Kyo doesn't like his actual name, so he took his nickname from his hometown- Kyoto. The city (one of the most traditional still) seems to resonate strongly in him, and is often captured in his lyrics, when mentioning Gion or the sakura. He also lies a lot during interviews. |
| Kaoru (Niikura Kaoru): Guitarist, leader of DEG Birthdate: 02/17/1974 Bloodtype: A Height: 170 cm (about 5' 7") Kaoru is the leader of Dir en grey, as well as a great composer and guitarist. He rarely smiles. -_- He is the only member that scared everyone upon first meeting him- he even scared Kyo! O_O |
| Die (Ando Daisuke): Guitarist Birthdate: 12/20/1974 Bloodtype: B Height: 178 cm (about 5' 10") Die is pretty straightfoward, but is still known to make people laugh alot. He also has a knack for teasing Shinya~ He composed "304 Goushitsu, Hakushi no Sakura". |
