For the Best Bowel Movements!
Let's be honest, we all have to deal with our bm's and the fewer we have the happier we are. Here are things to eat that fatten them up and slow them down!
What to eat....
Potato Chips, Nacho Chips, French Fries, Pasta, Bananas (potassium), Peanut Butter, Cheese, Rice, and Oatmeal.
What to consider avoiding, otherwise you might be on the toilet all day....
Oreo cookies, Toast, Popcorn,
Cake, Spinach, Nuts,
Mushrooms, Sesame Seeds, Beans
Cereal
Most of these things are to heavy on the
fiber! If you have to eat these things, eat them with something listed above.
When in the Bathroom....
If you have to lock yourself in the bathroom for a day, for obvious reasons, consider to have & to do the following:

1.The BEST toilet paper in the world: Charmin toilet paper with aloe & vitamin E (get the really thick kind).

2. Cottonelle disposable wipes. Keep those in the bathroom and carry some in your purse/bag.

3. Diaper rash ointment like Desitin. Protects all sore bottoms. Origins carries a nice fragranced one in the baby skin care line. I LOVE that stuff.

4. Remember that you might have the occasional accident. That is ok. We all have suffered from that. If you get frustrated, remember that you are alive. We are lucky to still be able to go to the bathroom!

5. Lastly, a good soak in the tub can do wonders. Nothing too hot, just cozy warm.

To preserve your bottom, make sure to keep yourself really clean and protected after each bm. Good luck!
Paul's Corner
Did you know?
Paul's Corner is dedicated to my dear cousin who was there for me when I was first diagnosed. His presence made a huge difference. When I was depressed he made me laugh. Thank you, Paul, for staying up those nights with me in the hospital playing gin-rummy and listening to the cd player. You were my guardian angel during those low moments.
Familial Polyposis is divided into three different disorders: Familial Polyposis Coli, Garderner's Syndrome, & Turcot's Syndrome.
The earliest sign of FAP in a person are freckles located in the back of the retina They occur in about 85% of the people diagnosed with FAP.
Familial means that it runs in the family. Each child of an affected parent has a 50% of inheriting this disease gene.
Adenomatous is the type of mushroom-shaped polyp which may be precancerous.
Polyposis is a condition where a 100 or more polyps can form in the large intestine.
FAP people can experience extra tissue growth of the skin and bone. E.g., skin cysts on the scalp, face, arms, or leg & extra bone growths in the jaw or as teeth.
Celebrex is a new drug that more FAP people are taking to stop the growth of polyps. As a result, there is the hope of not needing to remove the large intestine.

Be apart of their study at the University of Utah! Your participation will make a difference for all FAP people of the future and yourself!
James A. Disario, M.D., of the University of Utah, is currently recruiting patients for a chemoprevention trial involving people with FAP and Attentuated Adenomatous Polyposis Coli.
The study is designed to test the efficiency of EXISULIND, a derivative of SULINDAC.
The project is a placebo controlled, double blind trial with the prime objective of inhibiting the growth of duodenal polyps. The treatment period is 3 years.
