Info - This small town, just north of Falmouth is a lovely spot on a good day. From the quay at low-mid tide there are waders frequenting the mud, with greenshank, spotted redshank and ruff possible in the autumn. There are always a few little egrets around to please the birder. The rugby club (up the road) is a good spot for gulls in the winter. A goos walk runs from Penryn to Flushing along the north of the river penryn but follows the tidal river closely. A couple of the inlents along its course are good for a variety of waders in spring and especially autumn. Wood Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper and many other waders have been seen along here. Access to the quay is easy. Walking down the main street through penryn (worth checking out the trees on the right hand side at the memorial in autumn/winter) takes you down to the main road. Cross the road and there is a car park, view from here. Past rarities have included Laughing Gull (2005 - at the rugby club), Firecrest (2004 - In the main car park), Mediterranean Gulls (Regular at the rugby club and quay in winter but 11 at the rugby club, 2003!), |
