| 3rd December 2008 When times are hard, when there are big decisions to make, its time to go for a stroll with bins slung around the neck. I headed out on a rare gorgeous morning with sunny weather and mill-pond conditions on the water at College Reservoir. A glimmer of goodness came after a very lengthy scan of the many ducks on the water when a drake Greater Scaup came into view amongst a group of Tufties. By far the best day of the winter so far for numers of birds on the water. 7 Little Grebes, 3 Shovelers, c20 Teal, 10 Pochards, c200 Tufted Ducks, c170 Wigeon, 6 Cormorants and c30 Mallards. Other bits and bobs included a Water Rail in the marsh and the 2 wintering Firecrests in the woodland both proving as hard as ever to get glimpses of! Sadly this is my last walk in Cornwall until the new year but please continue to send in your bird sightings from the Falmouth area.
