To Last A Lifetime Part 4:Double O Mina: International Spy

Mina's walking through the park, thinking of what had happened last night.

'I don't get it.' She thinks. 'We couldn't find that youma last night. And according to Amy's computer, the youma's energy disappeared right where Derek and Serena was.' Mina thinks. She frowns. 'I must be missing something! But what the heck is it?' She thinks.

Frustration hits her and she sits down on a bench, trying to figure things out. 'How will I get background infos on this Derek guy?' She asks herself. 'No one knows where he lives, no one's a close friend to him,' she thinks, and then adds, 'Other than Serena, who seems to be falling for him.' She thinks.

She shakes her head. 'There must be a way to find out more about him!' She thinks.

Sighing, she closes her eyes. But after a few moments, she jumps up, grinning from ear to ear. 'Who am I kidding? I'll do what I ALWAYS do! Snoop around!' She thinks, excitedly.

'This is a job for Double-O-Mina!' She thinks, with a smug grin on her face. 'Look out Derek, I'm your worst nightmare!' She thinks.

And then she heads out towards the mall.

"Now I'll go shopping! I'll need a special wardrobe if I'm spying on Derek!" She says to herself.

People start to stare at her, but she doesn't seem to notice. She skips happily towards the mall.

Mina knows that Serena had agreed to meet Derek near the temple to go somewhere today. She adjusts her sun glasses, makes sure her hair is still intact under the baseball cap and hides herself.

Serena's sitting on the steps of the temple. Raye had to go off somewhere with Chad.

Mina teased her mercilessly for over an hour before they left. Mina has the feeling that Raye will get back at her. From her dark sun glasses, she can see Derek approaching.

"Hello, Derek." Serena says, smiling at him.

He smiles back. "Bonjour, Serena. How are you today?" He asks.

"Wonderful." She answers in a dreamy voice. "Thank you for last night." She adds.

Mina holds her breath.

"You are a great kisser." Serena says.

Mina scrunches up her face in disgust. Derek might be good looking, but the fact that he's a complete stranger, not to mention he might even be one of Beryl's youmas does not appeal to her at all.
But the part of her that's the match maker tries to resist the urge to giggle. She stops before she could even giggle.

'That's funny,' she thinks. 'I have a feeling that she shouldn't kiss Derek. But not because he  might be an enemy, because she belongs to someone else all ready.' She thinks. She frowns. 'Why would I think that?' She asks herself.

Derek and Serena are holding hands as they walk towards the park.

Mina checks her get-up once more and then follows them. She tries not to make her presence obvious to the couple, though in Mina's case it's pretty hard. People stare at her unusual behaviour, hiding behind trash cans and trees and between the bushes. Serena turns around suddenly, causing Mina to leap into a bush. Few people who were watching her before laugh. "Qu'est-ce que c'est?" Asks Derek. "what is it?" He asks again.

"I thought I saw someone." serena says, frowning. Derek laughs.

"I'm sure it's nothing. Come, let us enjoy this beautiful summer day!" He says. Serena shrugs and laughs.

'He's right! What am I worried about?' Serena asks herself. As the couple walk on further, Mina gets out of her hiding place. She scowls. 'I'm going to get Serena for this!' She thinks, brushing the dirt off her clothes. Derek and Serena look at the movement of the bush. They exchange glances. Slowly, the move towards the bush and found Mina all tangled up.

"Mina?" Asks Serena.

Mina's eyes widen. She looks around frantically. "Er, hey Serena! Have you seen er...Dan...anywhere?" She asks, hoping her excuse will work.

"Who's Dan?" Asks Serena.

"Oh, he's my...date! You see, I started to flirt with him and we agreed to meet here and all, and we started chatting and walking, but then he said he had to go for a minute and he never showed up!" Explains  Mina in one long breath. She's pretty much breathless after this.

"And this was ten minutes ago." Mina adds.

Derek and Serena laughs.

"Sounds to me he left you on this one, Mina." Serena says teasingly. Mina gives out a sigh of relief.

But then changes her attitude. "He did what?? Why the nerve! That little creep will pay for what he did!" She shouts.

Serena laughs and shakes her head.

"See ya, Mina!" She waves.

Later...

After searching the whole park, Mina finally finds the couple.

They're sitting on a bench, looking at the pond. Smiling happily and they look at each other ocassionally to kiss. 'That would be a romantic picture if I didn't suspect Derek of being an alien.' Mina thinks. Mina sneaks her way up a tree behind the bench.

Using all her Scout skills, she climbs up the tree successfully.

Trying to listen on the conversation, Mina leans down a little, holding tightly on the tree branch.

"Want to get some ice cream?" Derek asks.

Serena beams. "You're such a sweetheart!" She praise.

He blushes. "Only when I'm with you." Derek says. And the couple got up to go to an ice cream parlor. Seeing this, Mina's eyes widen.

Then, she looks around her. She finally realize....That she's stuck up on the tree. She knew how to climb up, but she doesn't know how to get down. "Aaw! Drat!" She says. 'I wish I know how to get down.' She thinks. But she doesn't have to think anymore. She suddenly hears the sound of a cracking branch and before she knows what happened, she's sitting down on the ground, rubbing her sore butt. Mina groans as a she finally notices all the people watching. 'This just isn't my day.' She thinks.

After having their ice cream and after Mina tends to her wounds, Mina follows the couple, who seem to be heading towards the mall.

Mina lets out a sigh of relief. 'I can't possibly get hurt in the mall.' She thinks. How wrong she is, she'll find out soon.

It turns out that Derek was, in no uncertain terms, loaded.

He took her to several stores and bought her several fancy dresses. Needless to say, Serena was having a ball.

The same couldn't be said for her blond shadow, who desperately needed to work on her spying skills.

After tripping over several small objects and bumping into a couple display cases, Mina had the attention of almost everyone in the mall.

Except for the couple in question, of course.

Mina, at least had the common sense to stay at least 20 feet away from them at all times, out of earshot, and from the unusual looks that she was getting.

'I should have kept the Luna Pen, then I wouldn't be having this problem!'

"Is something wrong?" Derek asks as Serena looks around.

"...No, I guess not. I just had the feeling that someone was following us."

"It's probably all the men admiring your beauty."

Serena blushes. "You're so sweet." She gives him a quick peck on the cheek and continues on her way.

Mina almost didn't duck into the store in time when she saw Serena looking around.

'Whew! Safe!'

"May I help you?" She heard someone ask.

"Oh, no thanks, I..." Mina suddenly took a good look at the store she ducked into. The novelty/magic shop. "...I'm just looking around."

"Well, may I interest you in some fake vomit? It's impossible to tell it from the real thing."

At the thought of realistic fake vomit, Mina nearly showed the shopkeeper the real thing.

"Um, maybe later." Suddenly Mina had an idea. "Do you have any bugs or homing devices?"

"Why yes actually, we just got in a shipment of bugs that are concealed to look like ordinary objects."

"Show me."

"Okay...let's see. How can I get this on Serena without her noticing?"

Mina holds up a careful disguised bug and watches as Serena and Derek eat their lunch at the other side of the large food court.

"Hey! Watch out!"

Mina looks up in time to get an up close and personal view of a baby's rattle.

"Ow..." Mina says as she rubs her face, holding the rattle in one hand and the totally destroyed bug in the other.

"I'm really sorry, he's in the habit of throwing...Mina?"

Mina looks up to see Molly and Melvin with a baby carriage.

"Molly? Melvin? What are you doing with a kid?"

Molly blushes at the accusation and Melvin laughs nervously. "Actually, he's my little cousin." Molly explains. "He's going through this phase and it's totally wearing out my aunt. So as a favor, I'm taking care of him for the day and Melvin offered to help out."

"Oh, well, he's sure is cute." Mina says giving Molly back the rattle.

"Yeah, isn't he? Well, it's getting late, so we?d better get going now. Bye!"

"Bye," Mina waves then goes back to concentrating on how to plant the bug.

"Hey lady!"

Mina attention is diverted to a small group of boys.

"Yeah?"

"Aren?t you Sailor V?"

"Um, well I am, or was, I don?t do it any more." Mina says, proud that she was recognized.

"See? I told you she was Sailor V!" The leader said.

"Well, how was I supposed to know? She looked too old to be Sailor V!" The second boy said.

"Well what did you think?" A third one chimed in. "That she wouldn't grow all old and wrinkled?"

Mina, who took great offense to being called old, snapped at that point.

"What do you mean old and wrinkled?! I'M ONLY FOURTEEN!!!!"

"AHHH!" The leader screamed. "Run for your life! It's a monster!"

The group quickly ran off in the other direction, leaving a fuming Mina to calm down.

"Monster! Old! Who do those boys think they are?" Mina notices that her "targets" are leaving and quickly follows.

Mina falls into the next bench. "I've never realized spying could be so tiring." She mutters. She gets up, with new energy.

"No time for that now! Got to find out more about the guy!" She exclaims, rising a fist in the air. She stays in this position until she realizes that she doesn't have any idea how to find more information.

"But how?" She suddenly asks and her fist drop. "Where will I get more info?" She asks again, thinking deeply. "I'm not following them again. Geez! I didn't even know Serena's all ready in the kissing
stage with the guy!"

She exclaims, trying to block the mental picture of Derek and Serena kissing.

"Ugh!" She says and shudders, as the picture of Derek morphs to an ugly Negaverse monster.
Suddenly, her mind clears.

"School!" She exclaims.

'The personal profiles! If I can get my hands on them, I'll find out who Derek is!!' She thinks.

She grins.

"Mina Aino, you are a genius!" She announces.

Lita sulks against a tree, Luna standing by her.

"Bring!" Serena yells popping up from behind a tree. "you don?t want to fall asleep in class!" She takes a moment to sit beside Lita, laughing. "Imagine me of all people saying that!"

"Get lost!" Lita growls.

"Huh? What's wrong?"

"Don't mind her," Luna states in her best "I know everything, so you'd better listen to me" voice. "She's just upset because Andrew's got a girlfriend."

"Yeah right! Now what's really bugging you?"

"Andrew's in love."

"What? And he didn't tell me?" Serena huffed. "How long's he been seeing her?"

"About a year. They're engaged and everything!"

"Now I'm mad! I've known him forever, and he never even told me that he was dating her!"

She gets up and holds out a fist. "And after I give him a piece of my mind..." Her expression changes to a happier one. "I'll congratulate him!"

Lita and Luna facefault.

"Yeah right Serena!" Luna says, "you've had the biggest crush on Andrew since before I've known you!"

"That was before I got such a great guy! Everyone should be as lucky as I am." She looks at Lita. "Are you going to be all right?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine. Just don't tell Mina, okay? I don't want to be the next person she tries to set up."

"Deal." Serena feels a pair of hands wrap around her.

"Bon jour, ma petite lapinne. Comment ca-va?" Derek says as he kisses her cheek.

"I'm doing okay. Hey Lita you wanna catch a movie after school?"

Lita shakes her head. "Wish I could, I promised Andrew I'd give him a cooking lesson.  I wish I didn't have to go alone though."

"I'll come with you if you want." Serena says. "I could use the cooking lesson anyway."

"Really?" Serena nods and Lita hugs her. "Thanks Serena! You're the best!"

"Of course." Derek says, kissing her neck. "Ma lapinne has a heart big enough for the whole universe."

"Uh well," Lita sweatdrops "I think you two want to be alone. Come on Luna!"

The cat however didn't move. She just growled at the sight of someone kissing Serena like that with out her stopping him. She looked ready to pounce on the man who dared to take advantage of her ward like that.

Lita coughs and grabs Luna mid air as she decided that she'd had enough.

"Well, I'll meet you outside the arcade at five. See ya!" And with that, she dashed off with a fuming Moon-cat in tow.

A black clad figure is seen wandering the hall of the long deserted school.

"Ow!" She shouts as she stumbles over a trash can. "I should've brought Amy or one of the others with me." She sighs as the flashlight's batteries go dead. "Shoot! Oh well, at least I'm at the right door."

"Villains and burglars make this look so simple!" She tries desperately to pick the lock on the large door marked 'Office'.

"Finally!" She says as the door opens. "Now to see exactly who this Derek is..."

The ringing communicator interrupts her thoughts.

"Ugh this had better be important!" She grumbles as she takes out her communicator.

"This is AWFUL!" Sailor Moon cries out to Jupiter. "We can't attack her because she's Andrew's girlfriend!"

"Girlfriend or not, we've gotta wear her down in order to change her back, Jupiter Thunder...Crash!"

Unfortunately for Jupiter, this particular youma was able to catch her thunder inside a large science flask and throw it right back at them.

"Oh great!"

As an even bigger twist of fate, there was a particular innocent bystander at the scene. One with silver hair and purple eyes. Who just happened to be in the way of the thunder blast that the scouts just dodged.

"OH NO!" Sailor Moon shouts. "DEREK!!!"

She quickly leaps towards him and pushes him out of the way of the blast.

"Are you all right?" She asks as he looks into her eyes.

"Lapinne?" He whispers.

"Wha...?"

'How does he know?'

"Mercury Bubbles...Blast!"

A thick fog covers the scene as the other scouts appear.

"Hurry up Sailor Moon!" Mars yells at her. "Will you hurry up and heal her?"

"Stay here, you'll be safe." Sailor Moon says to Derek, before turning to the youma. "Moon Healing...Activation!"

The youma turns back into Rita, Andrew's girlfriend and Sailor Moon has just enough time to whisper to Derek, "Meet me at the park. You know the spot." Before joining her friends.

After the usual victory cheer, the scouts go their separate ways.

Sailor Moon wastes no time in running to the park, paying no attention to the black clad figure following behind her. . .

"Serena?" Derek calls as he hears a twig crack.

"Derek?" Sailor Moon asks as she steps into the clearing. "How did you know?"

"I'd recognize those eyes anywhere."

"Do you forgive me?" She says, stepping closer. "For lying to you?"

"You never said that you weren't Sailor Moon, but of course I forgive you! You forgave me for not telling you..."

"Shh," Sailor Moon says, wrapping her arms around him. "Let?s just enjoy the moment." Derek takes he opportunity to kiss her.

Twenty feet away, out of hearing range, sat Tuxedo Mask, perched on top of a tree and ready to kill.

'How dare he kiss Sailor Moon like that!? Meatball Head will be heart-broken if she found out!'

'On the other hand, I could be the one to comfort her,,,'

'WHAT AM I THINKING!!!'

'I can't tell her! She'd never believe me anyway.'

'I just hate the fact that her ?perfect? boyfriend is a two-timing snake!'

He turns away and leaves just as Sailor Moon detransforms into Serena.

Mina rushes into the temple.

Lita and Raye who were there looking at her as if she was crazy.

"Mina! What on Earth are you thinking? Rushing in here like a maniac!" Raye shouts.

"Listen! I was....browsing around the files at school and I got a hold of Derek's personal file." Mina begins.

"Hey, isn't that illegal? You're not allowed to read those things unless you're like, working there." Lita says.

"Who cares! Well what I found out was that Derek doesn't come from France!" Mina exclaims.
"So? He could have lied. Guys do that to impress girls." Raye says.

"No! I mean, they have NO information on this guy! No records whatsoever. The whole thing was like, blank! No birth certificate, birth date or even like birth place! It's like, Poof! He just comes out of nowhere!" Mina exclaims.

Lita and Raye exchange looks. But they do find it strange that the school has no record of Derek's past.

"Maybe he was adopted." Suggests Lita.

"Ugh!" Mina says and hits her head on the wall in frustration.

Darien looks on, disgusted as Serena walks into the arcade, on Derek's arm.

"Derek!" Serena squeals. "You really didn't have to buy me that dress. It was really expensive."

"Nothing is too good for you, ma petite lapinne." Derek says as he kisses he lips.

Darien uses all his will power not to send Derek into the ICU ward at the hospital.

'I don't believe the nerve of this guy! First he?s kissing Sailor Moon like she's the love of his life and now he's charming Serena! I should do something!'

'Like what? Hit him, or kiss her?' A voice snaps him out of his thoughts.

"Ugh! I think I'm going to be sick!"

Darien turns to see Mina, looking at the scene with a disgusted look.

"You don?t think they're right for each other either, huh Mina?"

"Nope. Sure don't. For one thing, I've got nothing on this guy."

"Oh that's a good reason to not like him." Darien says sarcastically.

Mina glares at him. "I mean it. No birth certificate, birth date, last address, NOTHING! It's like this guy just fell out of the sky!"

Darien thinks for a moment.

"You know, I've got a bad feeling about him too, would you like some help in trying to find out more about this guy? I'm good with computers, maybe then we'll find some answers."

"Why are you doing this?" Mina asks suspiciously.

"Well?"Darien struggles to find an excuse she?d buy. "I don't like that guy. He's hiding something."

"Oh?" Mina says with a sly smile playing on her lips. "And you?re an open book? Raye just barely found out what classes you take and how long have you been dating?"

Her smile widens at Darien's increased nervousness.

"Never mind. I'll get the reason later. Right now I'm glad to get the help."

The two shake hands, sealing the agreement, and making the alliance official.
