At first we went to Taomina, a nice village on the mountain. The hotel Timeo was a good choice. We had a great view over the Mediterranean sea and the active Etna. Water temperatures around 17°C allowed only brave swimmers to enter the sea. On the way to Palermo we visited the Villa del Casale, an antic village with very impressive mosaics. And of course, the highlight in Sicily is the wine. We had a great introduction and tasting at the wineries Planeta and Donnafugata. Impressive are the full-body red wines as well as the warm welcome of the Sicilians.

Sorrento

A 4 hour ferry tour took us from Palermo to Napoli and Sorrento. The trip to Capri was interesting. But is was not worth to wait one hour on a small boat without beverages to see for two minutes the Grotta Azzurra.
The temple city of Pastum reminds you on the Greek ancestors. Besides the history the area is very famous for its fresh buffalo mozzarella. Pizza Margarita is a must.

Seven years after our honeymoon in Rome we enjoyed our second time in town. And we could visit the sights we missed last time like the Spanish stairs and the Colosseo.
