Canoeing solo across the State of Florida, from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean - via the Okeechobee Waterway, and from Ft. Pierce to Key Largo - via the Intracoastal Waterway.
Map Okeechobee Waterway

On July 31st, 2002, my two dogs and I embarked on a canoe trip that would entail the following routes:

-From the Gulf Coast of Florida to the East Coast, via the Okeechobee Waterway (152 miles)

-From Stewart to Key West via the Intracoastal Waterway

- And, God-willing, from Key West to South America via the Bahamas and the Antilles

First and foremost, I wish to express my deep gratitude to all the people who are mentioned in this story. Without their kindness, help and generosity, this trip would not have been possible.

I have been asked many times if I am not afraid to be making this trip alone. My answer is that, truth-be-told, I have not made this trip alone.  It would not have been possible without the friends who helped me from the start and the friends I made along the way. Special people who went out of their way for no other reason than to encourage me and help me carry out my dream. They are the ones who have made this trip possible. I will forever be grateful and will forever treasure their memories in my heart.

To each one of them I have to say:
My adventure is also your adventure. I could have never done it without you. You
are, indeed, the wind beneath my wings.
