| Entering and Leaving a Room Entering the room: If a Free Person is present, in the room you that you are entering, you should ask permission to enter when you come in. Technically speaking, you're already in the room, but ask permission to enter it further. It is a good idea to speak it within quotation marks, rather than just using emotes. In other words, say, "may this one enter?", instead of the emote/action [name] begs permission to enter. Stop at the doorway, as you ask permission. It is not required that you kneel at the door to ask, but always ask. Many slaves will kneel as they ask permission, as well. Example: A girl sinks to her knees at the door, and softly speaks, "may a girl enter the tavern?" More elaborate: mirana goes to her knees at the doorway, and with her gaze down, a thick wave of curls falling over her shoulders as she bows in supplication, she speaks in a low sweet voice, "may a girl be allowed to enter the tavern, if it pleases?" Vary your entrances each time that you visit. Do NOT macro them or cut and paste them from a file. Leaving the room Again, if a Free Person is in the room, ask permission to leave. If you need to go afk (away-from-keyboard you should also ask permission. It won't be denied, the object is not to keep you online against your will, but to show respect and submission. It's also advisable that a slave go to the slave_gathering , to exit from there, so that one's log in will be from there as well. This way, you can do a .who before going to the tavern and see who is logged on. Greeting Free Persons and slaves After you enter a room, you can go to kneel on the slave furs unless a Free Person otherwise instructs you. First you should thank the one who granted you permission to enter the room. Then you can greet Free Persons in the room, "greetings, Master XXX, greetings Lady YYY". You do not have to greet every single Free Person in the room. If you lose track of who's in the room, type .look to see who is present. A Free Person's name will be capitalized, and their description should give you an indication of their Free status. If still in doubt, an .ex [name] will give you more information, including gender and Free/slave status. Once all or most of the Free Persons have been greeted, then you may greet all or some of your fellow slaves. Do so quietly, not boisterously; either in individual greetings, or as a group, such as : "greetings sister", or "this slave smiles a greeting to her sisters and brothers." If a slave is serving someone, or at at Free Person's feet, do not expect them to greet you in return, as their job at that moment is to focus on the one that they are serving or speaking with. When you are in service to a Free Person, serving Them, talking to Them, or simply kneeling at His or Her feet, your attention is to be focused to that one person. You should not return the greetings of people who enter the room. Also, while you are busy serving one Free Person do not ask questions or talk to others as they come into the tavern, or leave it. Focus completely on the person you are serving unless they give you permission out load or in a .tell to speak to others in the room. If you must communicate with someone else, use a .tell and keep it very brief, and be very careful not to drop the tell in the room. The Free Person you are serving would think it very rude of you to see you are speaking in tells with others while you are supposed to be serving them. Do's and Don'ts for slaves Never touch a weapon or a coin. If you are offered a coin for service or food or drink, take it on your tongue without touching your hands to it, or let it lay on the table and get a cloth to pick it up with, then drop it in a cup. Give it to a Council member as the Free Person's payment. Do not keep it. [Note: Slaves do touch weapons and coins in the books, and it is the intent which is most critical.] Use a "slicing tool" of sinew to cut or peel food items in the servery. Never ever touch a knife. As a new slave it's wise not to privately message a Master or Mistress you don't know, without asking permission, aloud, to .tell first. As you become more at ease you might know which Masters and Mistresses would welcome messages from you. If you make a mistake, one that's pretty obvious, acknowledge your error and beg pardon for it. It's better to do that than wait to be brought up short with it. Do NOT flaunt yourself sexually before the tavern unless your silk color is one that permits you to do so. And then do it sparingly, and cautiously. In other words - don't fiddle with the larma fruit, don't talk about or show your slave heat (genitals obviously displayed), don't braid your hair or put it in a bondage knot, don't wear a talender flower in your hair. All of those things are considered to be a sexual invitation, very blatant, and are not to be used lightly, or for a general viewing. If used at all - and again I caution you, use them sparingly - they should be directed only to ONE person. Never correct another slave publicly. If you see one making a mistake, send them a private message making a polite suggestion to correct the error. NEVER correct a Free Person in public. If you need to do it very politely in a private message, if they permit you to. Tasks to keep yourself occupied Always try to show that you are somehow occupied. If you are just learning, spend some time in the slave gathering to read help files. If you are watching, indicate that in an emote. There are always chores you can do to show yourself busy, and not a lazy slave : Sweep up ashes from the hearth Bring in firewood Poke up the fire Pick up dirty dishes from the tables and take them to the servery to wash them Polish furniture Dust furniture Arrange flowers Sweep and mop the entry way Take unoccupied furs outside to beat the dust from them Put out fresh candles around the room in the candle holders attached to the walls Check the kettles to be sure enough blackwine is brewing, enough water is hot for tea, enough paga is warming Learn about foods |
