Leftenant | Gwyn Knightly-Phillips | Overview: |

Russell Knightly was a trade diplomat for the Federated Commonwealth, his job was to ensure shipments from Lyran side of the border were not delayed if possible. Russell was a single father, and Gwyn was a handful at times as she liked to tear things apart, and occasionally she managed to put them back together. Rather than get upset with Gwyn, he encouraged the behaviour, to a certain extent. This developed into the building blocks to an eventual technician career.
There came a point, however, where Russell could no longer keep Gwyn with him. With deep regret, he sent her to military school. Though Gwyn did not have any discipline problems, Military School seemed the logical choice, as it would give Gwyn a safe schooling environment and some extra options for later on in life. Gwyn approved of her father's choice, after a couple of months. Father and daughter had been very close, never apart, not like this. At first Gwyn was furious at being "Abandoned" there in Military School, but the school fed her technical desires. After the first year, when Gwyn returned to her father, she had to remember what a friend of hers told her, and she allowed her father a chance to explain. With the reasons on the table, it was clear to Gwyn that Russell truly had his daughter's best interests at heart. Money was an issue for them, but Russell scraped everything he could in order to get her into the Albion Military Academy. It was the best he could do, but not all was lost. Upon finishing her training as a Basic Technician, the dean transferred Gwyn to Armstrong Academy for further training as an Aerospace Technician. This was great, but Gwyn made |

a fatal error, she never informed her father of the new situation, and the school's notice never reached Russell.
Graduation came and went, and Gwyn was crushed, as her father never showed. Russell was at Albion Academy trying to find out what happened to his daughter. With the transfer two years old by then, and most of the staff replaced, he never found out why Gwyn was not at Albion. What was worse for Russell, there was no information on his daughter, no police reports, no attendance records, no test results for the past two years, and no one seemed concerned. Russell's world seemed to collapse around him. Gwyn attempted to contact her father, but she was shipped off to head the engineering staff aboard the FSS Sanford. The real problem for Gwyn after her assignment was that she did not know where her father was. The only message she got back from the diplomatic corps was that Russell Knightly quit his job for personal reasons. This bothered Gwyn because she knew how much her father loved his work. In spite of that, she pressed on in her job and earned herself the Silver Sunburst. The publicity of the award going to a female technician was considerable, and somewhere in all the din generated over the award, Russell just happened to be on New Avalon at the time and he had a renewed sense of urgency to catch up to Gwyn before she took off again on another assignment. It was a tearful reunion as the two met each other, but this time, it was Gwyn who had to do all the explaining. The meeting put both of them back on the right track. Russell was reinstated as a diplomat, and Gwyn took the option of going back to Armstrong Flight Academy, this time from start of the program, not in mid schooling. There, Gwyn met and married Marcus Phillips during her Dropship Pilot training. Gwyn decided not to leave it as a surprise and wrote her father, who attended the military wedding, and later, attended Gwyn's second graduation from Armstrong Flight Academy. All three hardly had a chance to say goodbye before Gwyn got her marching orders for the Deep Blue Sea. |
