Leftenant | Sofia Caporelli | Overview: |

Sofia Masters was born and raised on New Avalon. Both her parents worked at a factory that made fusion reactors for use in BattleMechs and Aerospace fighters. They lived in a particularly rough neighbourhood. Sofia's parents were not looking forward to having their only child attend the local high school. Each year there were no less than six incidents of violence in the school, and yet each year, nothing was done to make the school safe for the students. As Sofia grew older and closer to attending this high school, they grew more concerned for their daughter's safety.
Their prayers were answered when Kevin Masters, Sofia's father, was promoted to shop foreman. To add to their good fortune, Jo-Anne Masters was moved to sales. This put them into a position to enroll their daughter into Victoria's Hall of Education, a preparatory school on New Avalon. It separated parents and child, but the safe environment was well worth the sacrifice in their opinion. What ocured next was something Mr. and Mrs. Masters could not have anticipated. A male teacher, who's background was expertly forged, took advantage of Sofia, along with several other students at the school. The |
| school takes every precaution in screening their instructors, so when accusations of abuse are raised, the benefit of the doubt is giving to the faculty member. It was one of Sofia's friends who put herself in harms way in order to gain proper evidence on him. The experience was an ordeal that made Sofia very self-conscience and shy, more so than she had been.
Sofia never told her parents about what happened at Victoria's Hall of Education, they thought they had done the right thing by placing her there, and she did understand their thought process behind it. Also, it was clear that attendance did open doors that the high school would not have, as she went on to NAIS to train in the medical profession. There is no doubt in her mind though, that had her parents known what was going on at the school, they would have pulled her out in a heart beat. However, Sofia knew what was at stake for her future, and with support of her friends, she got through it. At New Avalon Institute of Science, Sofia trained as a surgical nurse. She had the skills and the talent to become a surgeon herself, but she did not want to go that route. She felt more comfortable with following orders rather than giving them. However, during her Paramilitary service, someone turned the tables on her after she completed her training at NAIS. Sofia was sent to various medical facilities to teach CPR courses, forcing her to give orders. Sofia left the military and entered the civilian workforce. But she did not stray very far. In fact, she took the advice of Sergeant Smyth, a good friend of hers from the institute, and she rejoined NAIS as a civilian nurse. It suited her well, and she treated many soldiers who were transferred there for treatment. That was where she met Sergio Caporelli. They did not hit it off right away, but over time, as he was a patient at NAIS for several years, they formed a relationship, built largely out of respect. Sergio learned from a friend of Sofia, about her past at Victoria's Hall, and rather than push her away, he made the extra effort. Sergio made to make regular visits to NAIS after his run in with the virus that forced his flight status to be revoked. Sofia learned how much that meant to him, and she made the extra effort. They kept in touch while he was on his tours while she remained at NAIS. Then finally, she took a bold step, the first one in many years, and asked him to marry her. Little did she know that he planned on doing the very same thing on that visit to NAIS. In spite of their marital status, Sergio was pulled away from her to serve the Commonwealth. In one of his letters to her, Sergio recommended she re-enlist and seek training in the Navy, as new warships were being built, and they would need good nurses and doctors. He promised to try his best to get them assigned to the same duty if she did so. Sergio kept his promise and pulled some strings to get her a position aboard the Deep Blue Sea with him. |
