Well, it has been almost a year since Hurricane Katrina hit Louisiana. It has been a long year, but things are back to normal. Well, as normal as anything can ever be in this state.
The people in my area started their own recovery within minutes of the storm's passing. There was no griping, moaning about how the storm was someone else's fault. Instead, there was the buzzing of chainsaws as people got around to cleaning up on their own instead of expecting the government to clean and rebuild everything for them.
The thing that I am tired of hearing is how bad poor New Orleans made out. Personally, I consider Katrina to be one of the best things to ever happen to the city. She forced much of the human trash to leave the area, and has forced the local government to come to terms with the fact that New Orleans hasn't been a world class city in 50 years.
